I am currently doing VCE english. I have been studying english since year 7 but am not sure that i am understanding the concepts e.g. TEEL essays, comparative etc. How do i am check that i am understanding the subject (i.e. what does it mean to understand the subject)?
Also how would i begin to understand the subject?

Understanding this subject means that you are able to understand the pieces for your assessments and how to do your assessments. For the text portion, you might want to have a look at the rubric marking piece that your teacher uses to grade your SACS. Though, I would highly encourage you that once you finish your text, write essays and send it to your teacher to mark/give feedback on.

Hey pd_123! That's a pretty big question, which I think vceme answered really well ;D
I think it's important to understand that understanding often is linked to application- if you can apply TEEL in your essay, write comparative essays, etc., that mostly likely means that you do understand these different aspects.
However, it'd be best to focus on specific aspects in your rubric (as vceme mentioned) since understanding a certain type of essay as a whole, e.g. language analysis, might be hard to measure. See if you can identify the effect of different language techniques, go beyond listing techniques, etc.
