Hey! For 1978, south Lebanon was the base of many Palestine resistance groups that were trying to launch attacks on north Israel so there was ongoing conflict there for years before. The main tipping point was when a Fatah group hijacked buses and began to shoot up civilians, and Israel launched its attack 3 days after the massacre. Very similar story with 1982, Israel was suffering civilian casualties from the Palestinian attacks from Lebanon's side. There was an assassination attempt on Israel's ambassador to the UK so Israel launched its attack to push the Palestinian Liberation Organisation back, and eventually they moved their base of operation away from Lebanon.
