when doing questions that involve more than one object (connected particle) on an inclined plane, is it necessary to show working for each individual object (tension and so forth) or can we take it as a whole system. ive been using the whole system method and find it much easier, however the working in trial exam solutions show that calculations have been taken for each individual object. is somebody able to clarify this??

Its fine just specify the equation of motion you write as 'for whole system: ...'
