Title: eddy currents in slotted pendulum

can someone explain how the adjacent eddy currents induced in a slotted pendulum flow in opposite directions? it just doesn't make sense to me because the slots experience an increase in flux and the no change (when entering). so shouldn't they only flow in one direction before disappearing?
