Title: VCE biology or VCE psychology
Post by: ReptilianV on July 25, 2020, 11:47:55 am
Hi. I知 currently in year 10 looking for options for a 3/4 subject for next year in year 11 (2021). I知 lost between whether doing VCE biology or psychology next year because I知 aiming to hopefully get into medicine when I get to uni. My subject choices for year 12 are English(mainstream), methods, spec, French and chem.
If anyone could give me some help I壇 greatly appreciate it. For extra information, I don稚 mind either of the two subjects, meaning I don稚 like one or the other and I知 willing to put the effort in to get a good score, but I don稚 think biology is going to be my strongest subject and I壇 rather do the bridging course than doing it for VCE.
Thanks.

You kind of already answer your own question.

However, why are you hesitant to do biology? If you are interested in doing medicine at university it is likely to be much more in-line with your interests (although yes psychologically does include some bio concepts).

I知 hesitant because I had a family member who did the subject and put in a hell of an effort and received 39+ (they rather I not put there actual score on the Internet). I知 just worried that even with all the effort I put in, I知 not going to do well and get a ss above 40.
If you're going for med then bio is the better choice here. If you put in the work you can get a good score in any subject. Different people have different experiences so I'm not sure why you're basing your subject selections based on how one individual went. VCE isn't really how much effort you put in. It's how well you study and how well you can answer the questions. I could know all the content back to front and upside down, but I'd still do badly if I didn't know how to approach and answer the questions. Bio is very commonly accelerated in and you shouldn't have too much trouble as long as you keep up with the work, and getting 40+ is very doable.

Good luck with subject selections.

I agree that biology is quite a difficult VCE subject with a heap of content and harsh marking but it is still possible to do very well in it as whys has said above.
There would be many people who put in a lot of effort into psychology and still don't do well as they want to so all of that argument could really apply for any subject.

yeah, I did psych last year and had a really good rank and put in a lot of effort but only got a 35.

I've heard of many ppl getting into med w/o bio though. I think just do whatever you think you'll get a higher score in.

Hi

I'm going for medicine next year and I do both Bio and Psych. I enjoy both subjects but I find Psych more interesting and applicable. I would say Psych is easier and much more manageable especially since you do some pre tough subjects like Spesh and French. However, Unit 3 AOS 2 and Unit 4 AOS 2 is probably pre helpful for med in Bio.
