After (very little) deliberation, I'm setting a time for said meet to happen - on the first day of Orientation at 2pm. This should be after the last lot of faculty tours and will during the Host Scheme Carnival. Going from experience, the best place to assemble will be The Tree @ the lake outside the Louis Matheson Library (near the Menzies building) as it shouldn't be too busy like the both Lawns will be.
We'll meet + greet and then maybe get some lunch from the various places (you probably won't need to bring any money as free food will be EVERYWHERE, but if you're picky /careful like me...bring some!) on campus. Plenty of ATMs though.
You don't have to be actually going to Monash to attend, but the date's been set such that every Monash FSNer should already be on campus ('compulsory' activities are on this morning)
Attendance List:
excalibur
aidansteele
caramel
Helvasca (maybe)
Ninox
ninwa (better damn come)
BA22
I've included an annotated map for reference.

I'll be there and square. Maybe I should wear my tie-dyed shirt so people can spot us amongst the crowds. :P
-
haha. i've seen that shirt before.
Maybe I should wear my 8-bit tie!
-
I am posting to signal my intentions of rocking up ^_^
-
too bad im not at uni yet
-
Nothing say that it was for Monash kids only ;)
-
I might see about it.
-
Count me in.
umm, I've seen tie-dyed t-shirts, but why wear a tie to uni?
any ideas on how to... distinguish ourselves as FSN'ers?
-
you should all buy pink shirts and fabric pens and write FSNer on them
-
Count me in.

I'll wear a bright green polo shirt so everyone can spot us. :P
If you're still not sure it's us, try calling 0421 634 880 and if you see me answer my phone, it's probably us you're eyeing off from a careful distance. :p

That's how I meet my students when I tutor them for the first time :P

Sup Joseph + gang,
Nice to see you have the initiative to set up a meet for us, I'll drop by if I'm free cause I'm kinda on a tight schedule - planning to head down(lots of emphasis on "down" :coolsmiley:) to UoM to meet up with friends and go out meeting melb uni pplz, I'll probably come say hi if all's well,
You guys take care,
Peace

This should be after the last lot of faculty tours and will during the Host Scheme Carnival.
Faculty tours? Host Scheme Carnival?!? What????
AHH I DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT MY O-WEEK
I MIGHT be there depending on whether I have a piano lesson that day and whether I feel like coming to Monash that day
-
You *have* to come in the morning...:P
-
I do? =\
All I've got is a sheet with a list of law faculty activities on Feb 20 ...
-
check out the eOrientation planner on monash's website
-
BA22 is coming =D
-
oh btw, is this meet up interfering with any of the important tours, like the library/faculty ones etc?
-
Nope.
The last faculty tours conclude at / before 2pm...(this is why I chose this time).
The only thing running is the Host Scheme Carnival ... which we can all explore as a collective. As for library tours -- completely useless in my opinion. They will, essentially, show you how to use Google @ Monash (so to speak). The only thing new they might show you is how to look for academic journals - this is easy anyway.
But if you want to go, by all means =D (you can go at any time...check the library website).
-
i would come guys, but i'm deferring and despite wanting to meet you all tbh i can't be arsed driving to monash clayton.
next year though.... i'm there
-
I won't be though!
I'll be on placement!
-
well... i'll have to host it then. or if some kind person is staying in the halls we could have a big shindig there....
-
== BA22 ;D
-
Yeah, put my name down. I wasn't sure if I could make it before but now I'm 95% sure i'm available.
-
Mmmkay guys, I *may* not be coming in for this. Southern Health recently sent me a letter asking me to come into hospital on the 13th for surgery - so I may be quite K.Oed for it on the 18th.
I will see how the recovery process goes...
-
:o surgery?!
-
On his ankle, I suppose! Excalibur, we can always push you around on a wheelchair / trolley / garbage-can-on-wheels. :)

preferably the latter, it's got uni student chic written all over it :D
-
Wait, you won't be better by then? D=
/me wishes I could drive :(
-

Hah no...I'm getting a septoplasty and turbinectomy. It'll take a month to fully recover, but I should be able to resume most things after a week.
-
septoplasty and turbinectomy
???
Where's BA22 when you need him :P
-
put simply for us non-med students, Excalibur's getting a nosejob ;)
-
That has a bad, bad implication.
Let's put it at 'nosejob for medical reasons'.
-
LOL.
Surrrrrrrrrrreeeee excalibur, whatever you say ;)
-
LOL. Oh please, give me a break everyone!
=p
-
I'LL GIVE YOU A BROKEN NOSE!
Nah, luvya Excal. *blows kisses*
-
Nah, luvya Excal. *blows kisses*
How dare you Aidan. :(
-
Caramel, when you're dating a fellow as attractive as Excalibur, competition is a given. You should be thankful that I'm giving you the opportunity to practise fending off thousands of would-be cougars that are trying to steal your man away!
-
I'LL GIVE YOU A BROKEN NOSE!
Nah, luvya Excal. *blows kisses*
I luvya more Excal. *blows twice the amount of kisses that nadiasocialist blew*
caramel is going to beat me up on thursday for this :(
-
SEE, CARAMEL? This is what I was warning you about! Beware the vixens who will try TO STEAL YOUR MAN.
*Fends off Ninafascist with a stick*
-
so on the 18th, should I look for the cat-fighting ladies? it's distinctive, draws attention and is easy to find. Plus with the crowd this'd draw, FSN can get more monash publicity! ;)
-
Speaking of that, I'll probably be handing out flyers for our newly expanded university forums. :)
-
BTW, could I ask you to make an effort to see several of my friends perform in the FREE Monash 2008 O-Show '008: The Degree is not Enough' in the Student Theatre space in Bldg. 10 (Campus Centre, near Employment and Careers)!
-
Hahaha there's quite a number of you guys going monash. id try and come down to greet you guys..but seeing as id probably creep you guys out, ill just stay home..that and i cbfd. Enjoy the Orientation tho..afaik dont let them scare you with compulsory, the tours are shit for one. All you realy need to be able to do is read a map and know where the library is. I used a map for the first time i went to classes, also dont be scared to ask around..first week there was always this guy, little round, with a thick moustache who'd just happen to be around when i got lost..he was very helpful(stalker? ).
Uhh..get ready to walk, walk , walk..uni is big..and the guys who manage shit are tight-asses. Ive actually had classes on oppoiste side of the campus S1 and eng buildings..enjoy the scenery tho, they're doing some construction stuff around there.
Oh yeah, monash is really club oriented so do bring some money(for signing up)..im not sure if its running that day though. Excal could probably verify. If you find a club you like, or a club for your course..JOIN IT! You'll meet lots of interesting and quirky people that way. (if your doing eng, join MESS..they're huge, and have a lot of events during the year). - Hell, i remember there being a "Fictional Reading Club", kind of like a really creepy Book Club..with no old women, no suburban home and no Oprah..so if they have that, im sure they got something to tailor for your need.
Most importantly, dont be shy..talk to people, get to know the place and HAVE FUN!

-
Clubs will be running on Wednesday - Friday I believe.
That said, they'll be out there to recruit on the Monday I would suspect. STAY AWAY FROM THE GODDAMN SOCIALISTS!
Tours are 'compulsory' ;)
-

what sort of events?

I was planning on seeing it anywayz. Gives me an excuse 2 sit down 4 a while, lolz. I'm also curious as to the performing talent Monash has :)
Excal, if you're not gonna b there 2 join me in the hanging of tree-car thingys and the spraying of toilet spray, then woteva shall I do? :P (The conversations I have with Excal @ 1am...)
And that is SO not a lake. It's like... a pond :P I saw it the other day when I went in 2 get my student ID card. WHICH I STILL DON'T HAVE! Stupid lady... *end weird rant*
Oh... put my name on the list as a maybe... depends how bad the tie-dye shirt is :P :coolsmiley: Nah... I've lead a busy life lately, I'm not sure whether I can hang around after the 'compulsory' stuff as of yet.

i planned to see it anyway
-
oh btw, student diaries are now available if u happen to be at monash for watever reason.
maxleng, depending on the club, they run things like free bbq's for club members, camps, boose-cruises, pubcrawls, balls etc
-
yeah was just checking out the stuff i got in this bag from enrollment.. its got this book with all the clubs in it and a description about each one what they represent and what stuff they do.. quite interesting actually.
rofl @ Fellowship of middle earth club and their 'cloak making' workshops

If you want WEIRD...look out for the Society for Creative Anachronism. Now that's just odd =p

Heh, you weren't talking to me at 1am today! Hmph!
If only you knew about Urinetown (by the Monash Uni Musical Company) last year - I was in this show!
I will definitely make an effort to come! I'm hoping I'll be recovered enough after 5 days or so!
-

I'll let you know on Sunday.

You all (those who are being slack and not already at orientation) better get off ya bum and come!
-

I'm glad I got to put some faces to screen names today. I'm really sorry I was unwell and antisocial guyz... I felt so rude :-[ I must've looked a mess as well, I got home and saw myself in the mirror and I was like :buck2: If it helps to know, I'm drugged up on panadine fort right now and veeerrrrrrrry mellow. I'd g2 qbh 2nite 4 that massive party but the medicine has made me a bit drowsy, and I don't fancy my chances of finding my own way home @ 2am half-charged... Anywayz, any1 who goes have fun! :)
-
Hehe.... I'm dozed up on that stuff too.
No need to apologise Fyrefly. Pain can bring down even the best of us (I know, I'm sure caramel's suffered enough of my groaning and general misery for the last few days!)
Thanks all for coming - it was an enjoyable afternoon!
-
Just wondering if anyone went to the party @ qbh? I just got home and it wasn't bad at all - tunes were insane!
-
So how was it?
-
Just wondering if anyone went to the party @ qbh? I just got home and it wasn't bad at all - tunes were insane!
QBH is usually a pretty rocking night :P (only if go with mates though!)
I'm really disappointed I missed out on account of my nose...but oh well.
-
I'm pissed off I missed out on account of med-induced sleep XD
Oh and kinda off-topic, but I got my hand checked this morning. Turns out I fractured my finger @ bball last week, so now it's all braced and bandaged. Doctor was annoyed I didn't come in sooner and says if it doesn't heal right, I might need corrective surgery. Hopefully it'll b alrite tho. Thx 4 ur advice guyz, u were all really nice and helpful about it :)

Yeah, the problem would've been that it would've started healing in the wrong spot - so that may create the need for the surgery. Mind you, the bruising will have slowed it down I would gather.
Best of luck for it though.
-
mmm whos the sugar in the pink shirt?
-
lol, necromancy.
That's caramel.
-
MAO... KILL THE NECROMANCER.

lolol/me kills Fyrefly: DAMN IT THE THREAD WAS INACTIVE FOR TWO DAYS!!! :P
