Well, they really are ;D

Also my timetable is exactly how I thought it'd be. Looks like no changes for me. :)
-
REALLY REALLY UGLY
-
Some subjects are not up yet though
-
Pretty Very ordinary..
-
They've got me in coming in Tuesday for one tutorial :(
On closure examination, I only have to move all my tutorials, one of my lectures and one of my labs. Wasn't AS bad as I thought.
-
Have to change everything but two lectures (which I don't really have to move anyway) -_-
-
Err, so apparently doing 512-225 Biological Psychology and 512-227 Developmental Psychology gives me 512-229 Common Lab Class for 225 and 227, which means my total contact hours goes down by two hours (i.e., one two-hour prac rather than two two-hour pracs as Handbook suggested). This is good news, except it's currently locked in at 8am, with last class at 5pm that day >_>
-
My timetable isn't out yet!
:'( :'( :'( :'(
-
Wow a day early.
I've got a full day on Wednesday (9-5 of mostly Chemistry :S ). All other days I start at 10. Wednesdays and Thursdays I finish at 5. The only problem is that I've got very large gaps in between some lectures/tutes.
I've got a reasonable timetable for a jaffy, right?
EDIT: Here's my timetable:

This isn't fair!!!

Yeah, that's what I was thinking as well, especially with Chem for most of the day. But the only problem for me is that I also have to factor in part time work. Since I'm on a traineeship, I have to work at minimum of 15 hours/week and that's where I'm stuck.
Also, how is it possible to have a Chem lecture and ELS at the same time?
EDIT: Don't worry, answered my own question.
-
fail timetable, hopefully i can edit and change it to a good one

Does anyone know if Accelerated maths can be changed to a different time?
I've got it everyday

Still no timetable for me! FML

When do you reckon we would be able to change our timetable since timetables were released earlier?
Thanks.

does this mean the Monash timetable is out too?

at midnight, if you know what you're doing ;)

Thanks.
At midnight perhaps?
Click here to read last year's epic midnight editing :P
-
im doing behavioural neuroscience first year..
so if i wait till midnight, i'll get it??
-
how do you edit it though
-
By midnight, i mean you can VIEW them. You can't edit them.
Go to your timetable on my.monash (it's on the home page)
Hit "weekly view", then click "next week"
If you do it after midnight tonight, "next week" will take you to your allocated timetable for sem 1, 2010 :)
-
Oh right. Thx!
-
Hmm not so happy..
What's the deal with moving lectures around? How do I know it's not the same lecture but just put down twice in the one week??
EDIT: what's this L01/01, L01/02 etc stuff on the list of times page?
2nd EDIT: Dw answered my own question. L01 I'm guessing is the 1st lecture and L02 is the 2nd...

Is Transition to Commerce held only at 11:00 am on a Thursday?
-
Is Transition to Commerce held only at 11:00 am on a Thursday?
I found this a massive waste of time. I'd be suprised if you kept going past like the 2nd/3rd week, so don't worry about fitting it into your timetable so much.
-
I'm not sure I was also looking for the timetable for 'Transition to Commerce' but couldn't find it.
And I guess it's not only held 11am on Thurs cause mines 2pm on Monday.
-
Meh, my timetable is pretty average but the only thing i can change to make it any better is move a lecture so i can finish an hour earlier on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
-
Lol, does anyone know whether the mind brain and behaviour 1 lectures on 10am tues-thurs are full? oO
-
Wed 4pm T2C also held that day too.
Does anyone know if Business Law Computer Lab TUTE can be changed to a different time?
Its on Fri 11am, is Friday the only session?
-
does overfull mean that u cant change and keep the spot ?
-
does overfull mean that u cant change and keep the spot ?
Yes.

10 am Tuesday is 92% full

For Tuesday and Wednesday they are 92% full
-
does overfull mean that u cant change and keep the spot ?
Yes.
But if we move out of a full class, we can still get back in, right? It only says:
Overfull and Full labels on subjects are there to show you whether you can enter a class or not. You do not have to leave an overfull or full class (your place in that class is safe), but if you do decide to move out of an overfull class, you will not be able to get back in.

No
-
I heard in many cases, morning classes tend to have the most vacancies. Is this true?
So if you're a morning person, would it be best to try and cram everything before 12 pm? Has anyone tried this?
-
Mine's not too bad. I don't mind the 2 long days. And only Science 101 on Thursdays which I've heard is only important for the first couple of weeks? Hopefully I can change my Management tute to Monday (if it runs), otherwise I'll be coming in for an hour every 2nd week :(
But three 8am starts isn't too appealing!
-
Can anyone tell me from personal experience, is 3 (or even 4) hours of lectures and tutes in a row a lot? Or is it better to break them up like 2 and 1 (or 2 and 2)?
-
for me yes! its a lot ...i prefer to eat...although im stuck with 5 hrs in a row
-
I would say 3 is a max for me. First sem, I had 5 hours in a row (either 11-4, or 12-5 on a tuesday) and by the end of it, my brain was like mush. I have a very short attention span, so that just might be me.
also, it might depend if it's lectures or tutes. if it was 4 hours of lectures in a row, i'd probably fall asleep, since it's mostly a passive activity.
gloam:
If you move out of a full class, it goes to from full to, say, 93%. If somebody doesn't change into that class, then you can go back to that class. If you move from an overfull class, it goes from overfull to full and you can't get back in.
With the morning classes thing, I think the earliest classes and the latest classes have the lowest amount. There were over 100 macro streams last sem, and the ones that seemed the most empty were the 8am and 6pm ones. If you're a morning person, then that sounds good. I knew somebody who had to go into uni all five days (which is kinda funny for a comm student) and he timetabled everything as early as he could so he could have time to do stuff after all his classes finished.
-
Severe timetable clash but can't do anything about it.
MY THIRD YEAR SUCKS
-
Finally have my timetable!
Anyway
Monday: 10am (Real Analysis Lecture), 11am (Real Analysis Tutorial), 12pm (QM & SR lecture), 2pm (T & C physics lecture) & 4pm (QM & SR Tutorial).
Tuesday: 9am - 12pm (QM & SR lab), 2pm (Real Analysis with Applications Lab) & 4pm (T & C physics Tutorial).
Wednesday: 9am (Introductory Personal Finance Tutorial), 10am (T & C Lecture), 12pm (QM & SR Lecture), 2 - 4pm (Introductory Personal Finance Lecture) & 4pm (Real Analysis & Applications Lecture).
Thursday: 2pm - 5pm (T & C Physics Lab)
Friday: 9am (QM & SR Lecture), 12pm (Real Analysis Lecture) & 2pm (T & C Physics).
It's a good timetable but if I could put those 9am starts at 10am it would be better, also I want to find when Arun Ram lectures for real analysis (he sounds like a great lecturer).
-
Hmmm thought so. 3 hours would probably be the limit for me :|
Can anyone tell me what the chances are of changing my timetable around this way (the top one is what I got, and the bottom one is my edited one):
The one they gave me is horrible, and after MUCH MUCH MUCH tweaking and planning, I made this one. I'm yet to decide on which tutorials to put when but dm..
P.S. the brackets mean what number weekly lecture it is.
EDIT for shocking spelling and grammar mistakes..
EDIT (again..) just realised I'm jumping from stream to stream like there's no tomorrow! Grrrr better change that.
-
lectures on all five days? :/
most subs don't run classes on tues between 12 and 2. you can go to any lecture stream, even if it's not the one you're timetabled (not sure how it works with qm, though, since you hand in your assignments in lectures?). besides that tues afternoon tute you want, everything else looks good.

Yes, lectures on all five days! :( :( Calc 2 has them on Mon Wed and Fri, and Intro Mcr has them on both Tues and Thurs. Ridiculous... no possible way to get a day off!
Ok thanks for that, no wonder I couldn't find any on then lol. I've sorted out which tutes to go to as well (it worked out perfectly, as when one tute wasn't on, a tute for another sub was!). Except I can't find tute times for Finance 1: https://sis.unimelb.edu.au/cgi-bin/subjects.pl/list/23575 there's nothing here :S

Pretty sure QM assignments are marked by tutors, therefore they have to sort out the assignments anyway. I remember the lecturer telling us that we had an extra day if we came on the Wednesday lecture (as opposed to Tuesday).
-
That's quite unfortunate.
Yeahh, the same with the OB timetable. We'll just have to wait for Tuesday, or some random time on Monday, haha. Seriously, if Monday means ~3pm on Sunday, who knows when editing opens..
edit: Thanks for clearing that up Jamison!
-
this is wat mines like at the moment
i wanna change alot of it.
-
uhh.. my friend is editing her timetable as we speak.. So i'm guessing a small minority are able to edit now because my percentages are changing LOL
-
Mine is open for editing, it was lucky I logged on to double check my times. This is my new one (only one 8am start!)
I can't move the Science 101 to any other time as they're all overfull. After the first couple of weeks does it matter if I don't go? Travelling 1.5 hours to the city for a 1 hour session isn't very appealing to me :P

Science 101 only goes for two weeks anyway.

YES! My God that was annoying!
I followed the link on the first page of this thread.
I have no timetable. "A clash free solution could not be found" =(

Uni every day because of lectures -_-
Anyone know if QM2 lectures are important to attend?

Yep! :P

Should've done Intro Econometrics haha kidding.
Fuck theres like a million OB tutes.. all of them overfull. If I could only swap it I'll have a 3 day week.

Yeah I fail :( Probably just use lectopia for the Wednesday QM2 lecture, unless I manage to put some tutes around it -_- lousy OB tutes not moving.

anyone else having these problems?

I did last night. Doesn't it say somewhere at the top something along the lines of "if you change your subjects... whatever you agree to here no longer applies".
-
It says that my timetable clashes
it offers the reason;
'You may be doing a difficult combination of subjects, which produces a clash between subjects.
If you have subjects listed in the top "Subjects" box, then this is the most likely explanation.
Please click the Show my clashing timetable button to see your timetable.'
then when i click the buttn 'show my clashing timetable'
a 'terms of agreement' thing pops up that I have to check the disclaimer-
'I understand the warnings given above, and agree to accept a clashing timetable'
My question is, do I just accept this?

Call your student center and ask.
-
OMG how come people can edit theirs and i cant edit mine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Yeah I'm not able to edit either. Maybe they've turned the editing function off?
-
Can you be in 2 streams for the one subject?? Like for Calc. 2, can I be in the 1am stream on monday and wednesday then go to the 4pm one on friday?

wheres the editing tab supposed to be

Ok cool, thanks :) So I'm guessing it doesn't matter if you have different lecturers for the same subject.
Where exactly do you go to edit your timetable btw? Your portal or the sis page?

Either. On your portal you're just accessing the SIS page anyway by going to 'view my timetable' through the admin tab. A little box just pops up down the bottom that says 'edit my timetable'.

Ohhh I see (in that case, I don't have editing powerrrrr just yet). But that means I can bypass the student portal and avoid the current overload and go straight to the link on the 1st page of this thread :D

I accepted it. And I accepted for last semester too.
-
yea i accepted, and I have one clash, did you change ur subejcts or what? Or did you lsiten to the lectures online or something?
-
argh this is ridiculous. I keep seeing percentages in my subjects changing which means people are editing. grrrrrrr lol
-
Anyone have experience with subjects where all tutorials (and I mean all) are "Overfull"? Do they add new tutorials or is this a bug?
EDIT: 1000th post :)
-
They add extra streams. They weren't really expecting so many people for Japanese 1A last year and so they had to add another lecture stream plus about half a dozen more seminar streams? If they don't, it'll be that fruitless tute swapping crap again. -_- I really hope I can change my OB tute. It's standing in the way of my three day week.
i can't edit yet. :( so sad watching these percentages change.
-
620157 P01/01 Monday 10:00am - 11:00am Richard Berry-G04 [Math F] 1 hour

620157 P01/06 Monday 1:00pm - 2:00pm Richard Berry-G03 [Math G] 1 hour
Does anyone know what Math G C D F etc refer to are they ranking us or something?
-
yea i accepted, and I have one clash, did you change ur subejcts or what? Or did you lsiten to the lectures online or something?
Last year I was able to attend a another lecture stream (the clash was only for one lecture).
This year, I will not be able to attend any of the lectures for one subject. I will be catching up via audio recordings.
-
Seems I can't do anything until they add more tutorials for QM2 and OB *sigh*
This semester is going to suck.
-
Grrrr percentages are changinggggggggg. When the fk will I be able to edit!?
-
How is this my thermal & classical (T & C) physics labs were swapped from their original Thursday to Tuesday (at my QM & SR lab - causing a clash) and I didn't even edit! Obviously I unchanged this clash, but now I'm scared my timetable may change on it's own. :S
-
Please stop changing commerce percentages^^
-
Yay Everything is A. Ok Now :P
-
Um, so if every single class is full/overfull does that mean I have to wait till they add more. :/
-
I really hope I can change my OB tute. It's standing in the way of my three day week.
i can't edit yet. :( so sad watching these percentages change.
Exact same situation as you. I've got all of tuesday/thursday off except my OB tute at 5pm tuesday... Gayness. Also don't get your hopes up for editing because every single OB tute is overfull. So frustrating.
-
Hopefully they add some new streams by tomorrow, otherwise it's going to get messy -_-
-
Here's mine:
I really want to have 2 days off. I wonder if I can shift 2 off friday and just watch the Calc 2 lecture online?
And do we really need to go to the Science 101 seminar?
-
Science 101 runs for about 6 weeks, not compulsory
-
600101 S01/01 10th & 17th Mar Wednesday 9:00am - 10:00am 123 Bouverie St-G15 [Exam Room] 1 hour
Does that mean it only runs for 2 weeks?
-
:'( If I can't move my OB tute, I can't move my French to Tuesday. And if I can't do that, I'll be stuck with stinky french mondays (and 5 hour gap tuesdays). :( I want mah 3day week. >:(
I'm gonna be auto-refreshing the shit outta that shit whenever I can edit. Maybe if I bludgeon the system, it'll let me have my way. :P
Mxbn0: is seclife that linguistics sub?
-
Yup, all about the way we learn languages etc.
No way in hell I'm doing German as a study after VCE, but this should keep me interested until I start working for Audi :D
-
600101 S01/01 10th & 17th Mar Wednesday 9:00am - 10:00am 123 Bouverie St-G15 [Exam Room] 1 hour
Does that mean it only runs for 2 weeks?
The first two weeks are done in large groups, where you do stuff. Then you get broken into smaller groups and get allocated another room (at the same time) and do more stuff.
-
Is anyone else still having trouble with student portal?
-
Well, I can edit my timetable now.
Unfortunately, every single lab class and tute class is overfull so I can't move anything around. FML
-
Yay I can edit now.
-
Why can't i choose to do two streams for Calc 2??? It's saying system clash
-
if i click on a subject and there arent any more new spots coming up for the subject, does that mean there arent any streams atm ?
-
how long does transition to commerce run for?
-
transition to commerce
Contact Hours: One 1-hour lecture in weeks one, two, three and eleven
-
transition to commerce
Contact Hours: One 1-hour lecture in weeks one, two, three and eleven
z0mg
-
Why can't i choose to do two streams for Calc 2??? It's saying system clash
Alloc8 only lets you choose one stream for that subject. If you try move one lecture of a set to another stream, it moves ALL the lectures to that other stream. The system is trying to move your set of lectures, but it must be clashing with other things on your timetable, thus you get the clash message. If you really wanted to switch around when uni starts, you could just show up to that lecture, no one cares/knows, not sure if that's a good thing to do though (haven't done it myself for math subjects).
if i click on a subject and there arent any more new spots coming up for the subject, does that mean there arent any streams atm ?
There's probably only that one stream available.

Lecture at 9am then 4 hour gap til transition to commerce on monday<.<
-
Is there any work that needs to be done T2C? Like is it a serious subject??
-

No, I never bothered going.
-
I went to two. The first one was my very first commerce lecture. The guy sitting next to me slept on my arm for most of it. It was awesome.
I'm not sure why I went to the second one, but if it's that out of the way, I wouldn't bother going.
edit: forgot my timetable update. like i thought, it's just ob that's in the way. french classes are linked on both days, so cos i can't move my monday class, it won't let me have wednesdays off either. >:(
-
Student portal is out!
-
mine isnt bad...9am starts everyday isnt appealing though.
-
Hey I just recently (yesterday) changed subjects,
when does this change actually happen so that its in the timetable ?
Thanks!! :D
-
Mine looks empty compared to nels' lol. Very happy with how it turned out though :D

Usually at midnight when the system updates itself

Lol how do we swap tutorials? :D

Such is one of life's pleasures when you're doing commerce - fewer contact hours.
-

-
Anyone else doing logic 123 and missing one workshop in the timetable? oO

wow it seems soo congested.. >< good luck !
-
My breadth is choir at 4.30 to 6.30 on Tuesday, so that's not on there.
I was always better with long days though, we had some short days at school, I could never bring myself to concentrate enough for the time. So I guess that timetable suits me.
At least I get one hour breaks every day between 1pm and 2pm.

But for a Science student (I think?), having a day off is almost a luxury for a first year.

Yup, science :)

seriously, how do u science peeps survive all that?

With long days, make sure you have something to eat before pracs. I always found myself getting nauseated and dizzy on an empty stomach.
-
Yeh I once fell asleep in one of the biology pracs because I had 4 hours lectures before :P
-
But for a Science student (I think?), having a day off is almost a luxury for a first year.
I wasn't expecting any days off, but I have Thursdays and every second Tuesday off cause of pracs. But busy Monday, Wednesday and Friday

Every second Tuesdays? Wait, we don't have pracs every week?
EDIT: Oh, it says here in the handbook:
6 x three hours of practical activities during semester
which means one prac every 2 weeks. But where does this fit in:
6 hours of computer aided learning during semester, 8 hours of independent learning tasks during semester.
-
i think physics pracs are every week but bio and chem are every second week or so xD

Yeah, I made sure I would have time. I'll have that 1-2 break before every one of my pracs, so all good :)

The independent learning tasks, or ILTs are tasks you do at home. You read through a whole lot of information and there is a test at the end. If this is for biology the ILTs are only worth 5% (less than 1% each).

Shitballs.. Still no open OB tutes.
I might have to resort to:
You have 69 new emails
Joy.
-
They opened up some OB tutes! Managed to quickly sneak into a 1pm one which are usually always full. Major win.
Helloooooooooo 3 day week nice to meet you.
-
I worked out how to set my timetable up so some weeks I get Tuesday and Thursday off! Major win.
-
When you click on edit, if you then click on an overfull tute, what happens? Every single tutorial says overfull.
I don't want to leave my current one and then be stuck with nothing.

It'll just say that it's full and you can't move into it.

Also, why do I get emails swapping tute/lecture times for subjects I don't get even do, wtf?

I think they send them to everyone in commerce or something. Bc no one has access to who is in what tute/lecture after all..

Stupid uni has just moved one of my pracs around without my permission and now its clashing with one of my tutes.
I JUST WANT THE CHEM AND BIOMOLECULAR ENG STUDENTS TO ALL MOVE TO THE REACTOR ENG TUTES ON MONDAY ARVO BECAUSE THE PLAIN CHEM ENG STUDENTS NEED THE OTHER REACTOR ENG TUTE TIMESLOTS.
fml :(
-
Pretty happy with mine.
One morning lecture on monday, full days tuesday and wednesday, half day thursday and day off friday =D

Same happened to me (thermal clashed with quantum) so I'm just checking over my timetable to make sure it doesn't happen again. Also reactor eng sounds like it's nuclear reactor engineering which sounds hardcore.
Sorry for not coming today but I cracked it as the bookshop still hasn't got my lecture notes in. There is one Thursday?
Also the damn bookshop gives you store credit instead of cash for buybacks.

Well the bookshop faces the risk of not being able to resell your book :P

Looks nasty, but the pracs are one offs, and a couple of the other classes either dont run, or aren't compulsory.
-
(http://trinon.info/timetable.png)
Yeah, it's pretty sweet.
-
YES!!!
I finally managed to get a clash free timetable ...well sort of.

Moved stuff around a bit, even better :P

What actually defines a good timetable? And say if I have a tutorial at 9amto11 in the arts building is there enough time granted at the end of the tutorial to get to a lecture at the spot at 12?
-

It all depends on personal preference. Some people like morning classes, some like afternoon. Having a day off usually constitutes to a good timetable.
As for your tute in the spot, i had that problem last year except i was walking from Redmond Barry (the biology building). If you walk fast you can usually get there just on time or a minute or two late because classes usually finish at 5 to the hour.

Would normally take ~10 minutes of fast walking from Redmond Barry to The Spot

Haha that always seems to work! The portal does stuff up from time to time.
-
If it does and want to access your inbox, use this.

Meh, I decided to change my breadth to something else today and now it's going to take ages.
Anyone know how long it takes on average?
I guess I'll just have to turn up to whatever I want and hope for the best.

No more witch hunting?
I think you can get it changed at the Portal. I fit doesn't need approval, then it would be done by midnight. If it does need approval, then it will take a few days weeks.

Doing 'The Holocaust and Genocide' now. How do I know if it needs approval? I'm screwed.

Nah, I don't think that has pre requisites

As far as I know, it may take around 5-10 working days if your subject requires an interview and you have handed your approval form in for them to approve you manually. However if your subject doesn't require you to sit an interview and you meet its prereqs it would probably be one day, or a maximum two days.
Um, if you are not sure about your subject pre-reqs, check subject handbooks. I m sure you can find it.
-
Anyway after a night of anxiously waiting, everything was approved this morning and I have a brand-spankin' clash free time table now. Thanks guys!
-
Just realised I've been allocated all my 4 tutes on the one day (wednesday), one in the morning and three in the afternoon. Is this going to be difficult, or will it be fine? Any advice would be great!

Should be fine. But might become an issue at some point because in some subjects they hold mid semester tests during tutes so you could have all 4 in one day.

Okay, thanks! I think I have mid-semester tests for 3 subjects. I might try to change one to Monday, I have a 2 hour break then.
