Title: Scholarship Question for Monash scholarship Holders
Post by: angelboykevin on March 12, 2010, 08:34:49 pm
hey guys, for the Monash Scholarship, the recipients must maintaln a minimum of a credit average mark (**% let's say 70%) just wandering what exactly does that means?
The scholarship is pay every semester, so if you fail to maintain the minimum of a credit average mark in semester1 then you wont get the scholarship for semester 2?
its 4 units per semester, so if i get 75% for 3 of the units and 60% for the last unit, that is more then 70% for average mark right? so i still able to get the scholarship?
by your experience, how hard is that to maintain  a minimum credit average mark of 70%?  i know it depend on course, let us just say how hard for commerce and how hard for engineering or any other course.
i will be very appreciate if anyone could help to answer. thank you

Firstly, I think 70% is actually Distinction not a credit...

From what I read, if you go under the average needed, you go on probation for the next semester - kinda like a second chance. But if you go under again, you lose the scholarship.

As for maintaining the average, I'd also like to know as well :p

I have a friend who got 99.25 in 2006 and received the Engineering Excellence Award requiring him to maintain a 75% average. Only once he went on probation and now has a weighted average mark of 85ish%. Therefore if you can score in the 99s for an ENTER, maintaining a scholarship shouldn't be a problem...hopefully

Hi jimmy  hehe  hopefully,, the reason i score well in high school is because i really think its easy, but now...i really think its hard, uni freak me out. they are moving so fast, they dont care u can handle it or not, they never waiting for u.   lol now i really need to fut effort in now..   i just think im really luck, i got the best scholarship, i only need to maintain a average of 60%, hehe i should be fine.    the only thing i worry about is management(commerce), its really hard for a student who speak english as second language.   lol  how was your first 2weeks anyway?

The "average" is the WAM. (Weighted Average Mark) So its the thing down in your unofficial academic transcript in WES. Next to GPA. You must maintain it above the specified level. If you fail to meet it the next semester your scholarship is suspended. You do not get the payout at the next census date. If you fail to meet it again you will lose it. If you achieve the mark your scholarship is reinstated. But basically don't let it go below the required average because after that its basically up to the coursework scholarship unit to decide what to do with you. You can appeal but you know.
