i liked this exam, not too hard and not too easy.
many people did well in my class.
here are my answers that i wrote down on the formulae sheet and took out, but dont have working outs...
correct me if im wrong

Q1 2CIS[PI/2]
Q2 b) z= 2i, -2i, rt5 - i
Q3 y=3x-3
Q4 volume = [pi loge 3]/2
Q5 a) a= -8/3 m/s^s
b) mu = 8/[3g]
Q6 a) r(t) = 2cos[2t]i+3sin[2t]j
b) [x^2]/4 +[y^2]/9 =1  ( i wrote the domain and range wrong for this q, do u think they will take away marks?)
c) graph of half elipse
Q7a) 131/110
b) loge(1.2)+1
Q8b) y=tan[x/2-pi/4]
Q9 a= -r
Q10 sinx= 1/3

It was tricky but not bad .. however I know I screwed up the last question (got a really messy quadratic, didn't realise you had to get cos2x then from that get sinx ..) and the solving the polynomial over C in question 2. Plus I kinda borked the slope field. Meh, oh well, I think I did well enough. :P

i was able to solve it with quadratic,
found tanx from double angle formulae, then draw the triangle to find sinx

anyone know whether i'll loss mark for writing down the wrong domain and range, when they are not asked for?

7b I knew I got wrong about 2 minutes after I left the room, forgot about the +1 xDxD
Q8 I was like 'omg. Go back to exam 2 you stupid freaking slope field'. Made a decent attempt at it though
Q10 I think I have done completely wrong now xD
I tried to get in form a tan^2 x + b tan x + c, do quad stuff, get tan x, then draw triangle for sin x. My answer had a sqrt in it =/

I dont think so. But if you got the domain and range wrong, the part where you graph it would be wrong so you'd lose marks there

Sometimes and examiners are picky and want domain for these. It was 2 marks, so I assume they probably only want the cartesian equation, and PERHAPS the domain. I didn't put the range, I think the range is tested out in the graph anyway.

i drew the graph with x{ [-2,2] y{[0,3]

yeah Q9 was too easy, i didnt write much working out either
i think u need to write something like x'=-y y'=x

Depends how you attacked it. If you assumed x = cost and y = sint, then you'll lose a mark or two. You were supposed to work in terms of 'x', 'y' and 't' only, and not introduce a foreign function, I believe. That's why it was worth 3 marks. You had to show it for all 'x' and 'y', not a doctored function.

i drew lines at all 25 points,
let the numbers be the gradient

is this correct?

Err.. 2.5 instead of 2? lol it should be 2.5! i thought it was 2, but anyway examiners can't tell from the drawing

just draw roughly and let pi equal a bit more than 3

did u guys draw asymptoes/intersects ? its a bit too much working for a 1mark question.

i got everything xcept last qn which i made it halfway thru and couldnt see the simple thing i had to do..so cut at that...
im looking at anywhere between 36-38/40 including simple mistakes (which i have yet to find....)

Question 1 was wayyyy too easy for4 marks...
i lost 4 marks all together, chances of getting 40+ raw goneeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

i got the exam paper in front of me.

pity that i dont have a scanner!!!LOL

i think i passed. hopefully 30+/40.

q.1 - did well. 4marks
q2a - good. 1 mark
b. - not sure but i showed some working out. i'll say 0 marks.
3. good. 3 marks.
4. good. 4 marks.
5a and b. good. 4 marks.
6.a, b, c good. 6 marks.
7a. attempted.got a weird answer. but forgot how to do Euler's method properly. ><. FUCKEN HELL! i feel so dumb. didnt have enough time also. so i'll say 0 marks.
b. solved it. i should get consequential marks. 2 marks.
8a. i drew a table with values. then should that it was gradients. messy though but readible. 1 mark.
b. solved it. i think i got it right. but i should get 2 marks minimum anyway.
c. sketching... easy. 1 mark
9. a. didnt show it was in terms of r. hence i lose 1 mark. got 2 marks probably.
b. solved it. 3 marks.

so i'll be expecting to get around 33/40. According to last year's paper, 32+ out of 40 is an A. so I hope that it was enough to get an A.

grrr i didnt so the slope field AT ALL b/c i didnt know how... i freaked out
and i didnt do part c of that question

and i didnt do the last last question...b/c i ran out of time :S

and for some reason i got 121/100 for the euler's method

but apart from that i think i got them all right

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH im so sad atm, my tummy feels bad...im about to cry


i wanted 40+ so bad....now im very scared....

I doubt it. I wrote -8/3 m/s^2 (opposite to motion).

I think it would be unreasonable to ask for working out when they dont give any room for it

I dont think they should because the diagram showed the direction of motion, so IMO it isnt necessary to state it (i didnt write the direction, so i'm hoping im right  :) )

I have found where I went wrong on question 10.
1. I can't simplify (2/4sqrt 2 I am assuming I wrote)
2. I can't square my unsimplified answer 4 sqrt 2 properly either (I am thinking that turned into 64.)
Hopefully they will have pity on me and I will get 2/3 not 1/3, because I am thinking I found tan x properly, just in an unsimplified form. I sure bloody hope so anyway.

So annoyed at myself. Last year I wrote d(6x^3)/dx=12x^2 and I wanted so badly to not repeat something similar, this was near the end of a question but so if I am lucky I will get 2/3 for method. Sure hope so...

so 37/38 plus I am not at all confident on the slope field. wooo.

Oh and my internet keeps going on and off, really want to kick it. None of the random neighbour's wireless signals I can pick up it won't let me connect to either. ISP said it was their bad, stupid twits.

Edit: I think I drew the slope field stuff right then ^_^
Edit: I forgot about the dilation of tan on the slope field xD so 36/37 =[

Yep. My guess is cartesian equation gives you the 2 marks. And the domain + range is handled in the graph. It'd be ridiculous to lose double time simply because you made one error. Though it could happen :)

I have a copy of worked solutions on paper which I can scan, but the first post of this thread already has the correct solutions.

I won't post them unless people have any specific requests for working. Sorry to asa.hoshi for typing out the soft-copy of the paper for me. I will not do maths solutions anymore, because typesetting is a pain in the ass on the computer.

I promise I will do it for Chemistry though, and possibly Physics.

glad it wasn't more, someone completely forgot the 1/2 bit when drawing it ^_^


Oh question:
For the last one I am sure I had tan x = (-14 ? 18 )/ 8 sqrt 2, tan x = 4/8 sqrt 2 because it has to be +ve, after that I am not too sure what I did
Would I get 1 or 2 marks for getting tan x in an unsimplified form, and trying to draw a triangle to find sin x but completely stuffing up everything past there (I think (4 rt 2)^2 ended up being 64 x_X)

Im feeling shitty, not because i think ive dropped about 5 marks on this exam, but because if ive dropped 5 marks on "Exam 1" imagine how much i'd  drop on exam 2

-pi/2 <= Arctan[y] <= pi/2
-pi/2 <= x/2 - pi/4 <= pi/2

i think definently 1 mark, 2 marks depence where u up 2 in your working
i didnt think u need sin2x, just use cos2x = 1-sin^2(x)

and exam2 is ages away

dy/dx ='d 3 at the given point... so y=3x+c , then sub the p(2,3) for x,y

3=3(2)+c
3=6+c
c=-3

soooo

y=3x-3
=3(x-1)

My teacher marked 350 papers and got 0 perfect scorers. He said many people who got 39 lost a mark for the tan graph. Apparently they were really critical about it. *gulps*

He marked last years paper, and had many 40/40s. He said this year people performed worse. Hopefully the cutoff will be low (Y).

Haha, FSN did them first :) I woulda typed them out nicely, if someone shows me an accessible way of doing it. I can't stand using LaTeX... I just hate how it automatically makes huge gaps and lines, can someone explain how to stop this?
