Hey I'm just wondering whether we have to know bottom-up/top-down processing or not? I'm confused because they appear in a lot of notes but they are never mentioned.

It could come up.

They won't be on the exam, they aren't part of the course, but know the very basics anyway if your worried should take only a few minutes (like one line for each). I didn't even bother though since i knew they wouldn't be on the exam :p

Oh ok thanks - I'll probably just read over it then and have a general idea of what they are.

Just for precaution.. what exactly is top-down and bottom-up processing?
-
bottom-up processing: analysing sensory information starting with low-level features (colour, lines, shape, edges) and building upwards to a complete perception
top-down processing: applying pre-existing or higher-level knowledge so as to rapidly organise sensory information into a meaningful perception
