Title: General Chemistry working out requirement
Post by: kenhung123 on May 28, 2010, 07:44:07 pm
When showing working out is it vital to show the units in intermediate steps and working on how your using one quantity to derive another? e.g. n(NaCl)=0.2 mol => n(PbCl2)=2n(NaCl)=2*0.2=0.4mol

Would it be possible to do n(NaCl)=0.2
n(PbCl2)=2*0.2=0.4mol

i.e. is it sufficient working?

you always need units when saying something like
n(NaCl) = 0.2mol
but in the intermediate steps it is not necessary.

i asked the same question a year ago cos i got a mark taken off from a SAC because of that, yeh, but like what cthulhu said you don't need to write them in an exam..
