how many practice papers did you manage to do?
-
I have done ~13 so far.
-
EPIC i've done only 5
-
I know someone who's pretty intelligent (he got into med) that did about 40 trial exams, and still only got a 37 in chem...
-
EPIC i've done only 5
Half of them were done in/through school(as homework).. So I've done about 6 of my own accord.
But yeah, it is quite a lot, way more than I though I would do. I was planning on being super pr0 and only doing 5 and learning as much about my mistakes as I could.

Holy crap. 40 exam 1s? That is over kill. Though I do remember mavisgibbons recommending ~50 for Bio... :buck2:

Sigh. That was why he only got 37. Because he obviously took it too seriously. Get existential people!

OMG THATS DEPRESSING...

Was intending Chem to be in my bottom 2 during the end-year exam period, but started to try on it after I thought I apparently screwed up both Methods and Spesh. Problem was, that was only a span of around 2 days or so, so I probably only did 5 exams or so. However, I did put quite a lot of effort into it in the mid-year (hence explaining my end score) and that would've been around 9 exam papers. Would have done more if there were more available (I was in the first year of the new course), but since there weren't, the 9 exam papers doesn't take into account other methods of study such as doing notes, NEAP questions etc.

Exam preparation isn't a numbers game =/
-
hmmmmm well apparentely the magic number is 20, done 6 myself.....slowly improving.....very slowly......and it's depressing concidering i started at 48 % for my first paper :S
-
I'm not going to get 20 papers done for Chem =/ I have Physics as well lol. So far 12 papers for Chem and 9 for Physics.

i dont know if i'll get 20 either >< i'll try and do heaps this weekend though.stress

50 exams shiiiiiiiiiiiiit. I'm doing both chem and physics and i extremely doubt ill collectively do half that. i've done 7 chem and 2 physics...but ive done all the checkpoint for physics. Planning on doing about another 8 for each.

stress. sums it up perfectly.

I think thats what he was inferring

~15
gets pointless IMO after about 20
-
Im going to repeat all VCAA ones... Im having trouble getting those stoich questions around my head
-
Only done five exams so far...on my first one (Insight 08) I only lost 10 marks, but for some reason i keep losing 10 - 15 marks on the exams i'm doing at the moment :(
-
i did about 10, after about 5-6 i knew what areas i needed to brush up on.
-
Appianway said she dropped 1 mark on 09... there is a machine among us.. I'm not joking..
Dux of VN - Appianway, 99.95, I bet you $300.
Runner-ups: kyzoo and martoman
Everyone else in the 90s :P
+ EZ

What are you losing marks on? If it's stupid mistakes... I tended to lose a lot more marks on my practice exams than I did on my actual ones (though I think chem that year was too easy). You're always more focused in the actual thing and more careful not to make stupid mistakes etc.
If not, mistakes are GOOD! They show you what you need to work on. Getting everything right is unhelpful and could merely make you overconfident.
-
Done about 8 or 9
Probably aim to do another 4 for chem. Try and 'expose' myself to as many different types of questions as possible.
By the way guys, how exactly do you study for chem in terms of summarising and making notes? With biol last year this was my main method of studying, but with physics and chem (especially with physics) im finding that there is hardly as much theory and when i sit down to do a summary im finished in like 30 mins.
So what concepts do you focus on when making summaries?

20 exams papers = annihilation of trees

Hahaha. Soo true.

Oh, Andrew, I ended up dropping one in multiple choice too, so I dropped 2 (oh, and for anyone from my school, I didn't give it to my chem teacher to mark because I was in Canberrra, but I used the VCAA assessment report). Not too good, not too good. Did better in all of my other trials though, with the possible exception of STAV 2010 (which I haven't been able to mark yet). I'm not ready at all for the exam though... NMR...

Unless your school gives you "Do not write in these" booklets which will probably used again till the study design is over=)

20 papers isnt really that much
20X around 12 pages double sided = 240 pages.
You can get 1500 of recycled paper for $20

I don't think cost was his point =P

exams should be canceled for the sake of the environment

exams should be canceled for the sake of the environment
there should be a ban on shit trial papers made by lisachem and tsfx. answers to trial exams shouldnt be 33 pages long aswell...
-
Long answers are GOOD. Just don't print them.

insight are the culprits of these long solutions

Long answers are GOOD. Just don't print them.
Insight bio papers have their answers highlighted on the MC questions. So you have to print all the mc questions again, instead of 1D 2C 3A 4C...etc
I print everything off, on the computer there is too much distraction
-
I hated marking the insight paper, it took so long from the scrolling.
really you have to give it to VCAA for easy to mark papers.
-
I did 6 for mid years, and 4 for end of years. I got 49. I didn't really like doing practice exams tbh.

wow shit seriously? thats pro
-
I've done bits and specks of about 6-8, totaling about 2 full exams (doing only questions relating to topics I've finished studying).
I'm screwed.
-
Ive done aboout 50 so far.

Ive done aboout 50 so far.
is there even 50 to get o_o or does this include half ones from old study designs? thats so so many, i'm sure your going to do really well !
-
yer. some from the old study design. Are we going to be asked to reconstruct say adentine and thymine and show the hydrogne bonding b/w the bases?
-

they could really ask anything, no one knows what could happen this year (except the writers of course).

Y not? It's just the atoms in the top-left hand corner of the bases as shown in the data book.
-
data book.
And i really hope not despite much practice its one of the worst things lol. that, and having to draw a complete nucleotide would be up there with the worst possible things they could throw at you i reckon. so time consuming and so easy to get wrong

I find it frustrating that I will do a self assessment on M/C and near always get ~50%. I've done 6 so far
-
exams should be canceled for the sake of the environment
LOL agreed
-
I've done 3 so far, LULZ
-
... ive done none :/
yeh man i've totally neglected chem for a long tym ... i seriously donno how i am meant to study the whole thing in 2 days
-
I'm starting to feel apathetic about exam revision now that they're so close now. Feel that maybe doing more would be a waste of time.
-
glad to see i'm not the only one whose neglected it.
-
Cram time... between physics and chem.
