I got a sheet today from my chem teacher re Year 11 Chemistry Challenge at Monash Pharmaceutical Science Labs in Parkville in the coming Sept holidays.
Has anyone done it before/ doing it this year?
What's it like?

Looked interesting. I applied, but my school was not selected.

yeh it says only 40 schools, picked out of a ballot, but our chem teacher (who is the muep chemistry teacher) reckons he can "put in a good word"

lol yeah I did this in year 11. It was pretty fun, we had to make a moisturizer, go to some lectures about the course and most importantly we got some pretty cool free stuff (like USBs, pens and more stuff)

So it was good then?
Its moisturizer once again haha
Is it difficult to do (ie. beyond the scope of the year 11 course?)
That sounds like some pretty good sweeteners haha

yeah, it was worth i reckon. The whole point is just to show off the pharmaceutical science degree, so expect alot of bullshit about the course.
They give you two tries to make the moisturiser. In the first attempt, you have to do it by trial and error, and in the 2nd attempt you're given all the instructions. I dont think its too far ahead of the year 11 course.

Well that's good then!
Now all I have to do is get pulled out of the ballot

I got offered by my teacher, to do this.. I did it,
really interesting experience, as you barely know most people there..
I think its max 2 people, per school, but i forgot!
Its been close to a year :P

Most of the stuff they talked about mainly related to bio. Good experience and you get to know a bit more about the campus if you're intending to study pharmacy/pharmaceutical sci. IRC, it went for two days (on one day u make the moisturizer and on the other you grow bacteria). Oh yeah, they also talk about skin conditions and the function of the skin and Psoriasis.
-
Yep, goes for 2 days, teams of 2 are submitted by each school, and then 40 teams are selected from a ballot
-
YES! That was hilarious. It's a lot of fun - I'd recommend doing it if you can - but it's not academically challenging. Go for the social side of it.

haha well our application has been sent in, and as far as the social side, I've only just moved to the senior campus, so i dont even really know who I'm doing it with haha
