Title: Bachelor of Arts - (Economics) & (Psychology)
Post by: mojomojo on August 03, 2010, 02:20:12 pm
Yo, i'm thinking of doing this next year.

Does Economics under Bachelor of Arts have much differences with the 1 under Commerce?
I love and enjoy Accounting but I'm not doing Economics for VCE and i'm not sure if i would enjoy it.

What exactly do you do in Economics?  :P

I know a friend and she's doing a BA with the intention of doing a double major with one of them being economics.  In first year, if you want to do economics, the only subjects available are Introductory Microeconomics and Introductory Macroeconomics.  Regardless of whether or not you are a commerce student intending to major in economics or an arts student, you still have to do those two subjects.

You would have the freedom to do a larger number of subjects in the commerce degree most likely. As for whether you'd like it, economics is very different to accounting or business management. It's hard to say whether you'd like it if you've never done it, so maybe just try one of the subjects while you're at uni and if you don't like it then don't do any more:P

If you go to the UoM handbook you can compare the different options and check what subjects are available

I didn't think a double major was possible? Or maybe this was just for science.. As i callled them asking about it and they said there's no way of doing double major D:

You can do a double major because economics takes up your breadth. Also, Arts has almost no core units.

Applethief would like to inform you that majoring in both economics and psychology in a BA is structurally impossible

He would also like to quote this from the handbook:
"It is not structurally possible to complete a major in psychology as well as a major in economics. Students who wish to complete majors in these two areas will need to seek advice from a student advisor in the Arts & Music Student Centre."

EDIT:
"in case anyone was wondering, it's because psych and economics both have more subjects in the major than normal arts majors, so you don't have space for *both* of them"

Speaking of arts students, is there still a line stretching through the entire old arts building for people to see the student center?
