Title: Honours at melbourne
Post by: andrew4443 on August 07, 2010, 11:14:36 pm
Hey I was just wondering if anyone knows how difficult it is to get into the honours program in finance, economics or any other Commerce subjects? Looking around the melbourne uni website it says that for finance for e.g. you need an average of 70% in third year to qualify, is this a true indication of whether you will get in? or do you need much higher marks to get in?

H1 in 4 core 3rd year subjects - corporate finance, derivative securities, investments and international finance. Ideally your other subjects should also hover around the H1 threshold though consideration will be weighted towards the big 4.

This is for Honours year leading up to Master of Commerce (finance)

My tutor (who is doing honours in finance) said that an average of 70 will merely make your name appear on the list.  If you actually want to be noticed or even have a chance of getting in, you'll need to be looking at H1s as pooshwaltzer said.  This is because honours in finance is extremely competitive.

You can also do honours at other universities if you don't get in to honours at UoM.
