Is it insane to do Method 3+4 without doing 1+2? :D
I can go through the textbook during the holiday though.
-
No, that's fine - especially if you go through it well on the holidays :)

Methods is EZ AZ BRO

Methods is EZ AZ BRO
Especially since methods is so "methodical" - though not as special as Specialist Maths :P

Save yourself the time learning from the textbook. Email Derrick Ha, get his revision book, and you'll be able to learn everything in half the time...
Then just do a few questions from the text. Then just do about as many practice exams as possible. I used to think it wasn't good to go too hard on prac exams, but methods is an exception.
Exam questions are so much easier when you done them before, and there are a range of different cases which unless you are a genius (you probably are :P) you will need to get exposed to, get them wrong, and then that is how you will learn.

Yeah don't even buy the textbook... you can learn the course from jack's notes or dha's book. Then maybe do all of checkpoints (it's very short... take maybe a day or two). then get started on the 500 practice exams available.

I concur. Just download it off here. A soft copy is sufficient.

500 practice exams..
meh, that sounds about right. :)

I swear to god, ilovemathsmeths was not kidding us when she said to start prac exams in July.
She got a 49 btw :D

I'm doing 3/4 math methods without 1/2. Went in without even knowing how to add two fractions. Didn't have a tutor or a helpful teacher so was a struggle. Now I'm alright at it, but I do regret not doing 1/2 as I would have been so much better at it now.
-
I didn't do 1/2...
-
Congrats then :) Did you self-learn?
-
I didn't do 1/2...
. So smart :) did u do general maths advanced 1+2 before doing spesh?:)
-
Kyzoo is the same, he got a 48. :D
I reckon I could have done it without 1/2 and I'm sure you can do it too!
-
I didn't do 1/2...
Did you get home schooled?
-
I think 1/2 is important..
Basic's are always the building blocks!

I think most if not all(?) of his class didn't do 1/2.
It's definitely doable.

No. Looked at the 1/2 book. Understood what was going on.

:-[ no i didn't do gma either that caused a big problem amoung the math fauclty like..... NO YOU CAN"T DO SPESH

As did I but it took me months to get my head around it all. When did you start learning some of the more complex maths? when I was 15 I was learning how to find the length of a hypotenuse :S

In brazil I was doing what i'm doing now in spesh and that was around 11ish so I guess I techincally *did* do the equivalents of the 1/2 before.

11ish?? this must be a ruse... please tell me you're actually a 60 year old maths professor pretending to be a 15 year old girl and give me my pride back :'(
I know where I come from (Russia) they start methods level maths at 13-14, is it even more hardcore in Brazil or were you one of *those* kids there too?
-
it's possible. i did it. admittedly i didn't go too well in it, but it wasn't just me -- we had a REALLY shitty teacher and a mostly weak cohort. and i only had the (bad!!) textbook and vcaa practice papers (i didn't know of this site's existence). i don't regret jumping a year, even though i'd do wayyy better if i retook it.
i would reccommend jumping straight into 3+4 if you're easily bored/good at math.

LOL. I didn't fully understand it! I was just exposed to it. The question was: "When did you start learning some of the more complex maths?" Its because we are given aptitude tests similar to the NAPLAN crap you guys do here and I did much better than I should have for maths so they gave me extra classes. In general Brazil isn't amazing in the maths department.
