Okay well firstly,
The schedule of reinforcement that produces the highest rate of responding is ___________.
They have "variable interval", I would have thought it to be "variable ratio". From wikipedia, it says "The variable ratio schedule produces both the highest rate of responding and the greatest resistance to extinction (for example, the behavior of gamblers at slot machines)"...
So I'm guessing that's a typo or something, there was also another error in the MC (it had that items remembered at the start of a list was due to the recency effect, and vice versa... which to me was obviously wrong) so maybe the STAV writers cos tired? But just thought I'd add it in case I'm wrong.
Anyway. Here's the other question, which is probably right but I don't get why:
Q41, Anna has become fascinated by Christine Aquilegia. Anna has bought all the Christine Aquilegia DVDs. Anna often sings in front of the mirror and tries to copy all Christine's moves. Anna's behaviour is influence by
A) External reinforcement
B) Vicarious reinforcement
C) Self reinforcement
D) Punishment.
The answer is C. I don't understand it :P Please explainnnn. Could it be just cos she brought the DVDs for herself. I thought it was B, because she'd seen Christine's fame so she wanted to emulate it and hence reap the rewards of being a famous singer.

hey, I think you are right about both of those questions, your original choices were correct, the apparent answers were typos.

So you think that for Q41, one about Anna, is vicarious too? Or were you just referring to the variable ratio and primacy/recency question.. Cos I'm most unsure about 41, the other two were more obviously wrong..
If so, that is shocking to have three mistakes in the one paper. Think I might steer clear of STAV from now on..
Thanks for the help!
-
to be honest, It's almost common to have mistakes in some of the questions, for most of the practice exams brands..
Maybe we just have to be solid enough in our understanding, to take those mistakes with a grain of salt.
btw how many practice exams have you done so far? and how many are you intending to do?

yes, vicarious reinforcement makes much more sense in regards to question 41.

Hmm well I did roughly 12 or more practice exams for the mid year and the only mistake I found was in one STAV paper. So they're really not selling themselves well haha. I didn't think mistakes were that common :S Yer it worries me when I don't know some of the concepts well, I have to just trust the exam papers and their answers. I might just do STAV last from now on. I've done 3 exams so far. I plan on doing 20 before the exam, cos I really want like a 48. So I'll need to really ace the end of year. How about you?
-
yeah, I've come across a few exams with mistakes, but mostly for biology.
I've done 4 prac exams for psych so far, going to end up doing about 20-25.
psych's my best subject.

haha mine too. Thank GOD I didn't do biology, I was so close to putting that down instead of psych. My atar/enter at the end of the year would seriously be screwed haha. Good luck for the rest of the year. Hopefully we both get really really good score :)

:'(
Marginally on topic, did you like unit 3 and all the biology in that?

hahaha. I loved the stuff regarding humans, like cells and structure from year 11 (only did 1/2 bio). But I just couldn't cope with learning about microscopes and plants. I really hate plants haha. The main reason why I didn't want to do it was because my school has really really bad biology teachers (they finished the course 4 days before the mid year). So it would have really lowered my score, but I think with psychology I'll get a way better score. Apparently the mid year for bio was a killer too so it looks like I made the right choice in terms of my atar..

nah i meant the biology component of psych, with the brain structure and visual perception and all that!
good luck, psych is pretty good as well (cough soft science :P)

haha I love everything in psych, like I enjoy studying all the information (which is weird haha). I liked visual perception the most last semester..The only annoying part is how pedantic they are with answers and definitions, it's pretty annoying.
haha I agree it's definitely a soft science (and yet at my school the score were way worse for psych than any other science..) but whenever I watch medical shows all the information from it pops up (was watching embarrassing illnesses last night and it had all this psych stuff like stress: cortisol, sleep: night terrors and EEG and on RPA last night it had a guy who had an operation on his temporal lobe and I understood most of the terminology regarding the brain there and when my sister needed an MRI I knew about it too) it seems to crop up a lot in medicine (well on tv, but still it counts haha) so it all seems very relevant which is why I like it the most. Makes me feel smart, even though I know the content is pretty easy haha. That's why I don't like chem as much, you don't really get to put it to good use that often in the real world, well for now...
How'd you go with psych when/if you did it?

Heh.
That because it's VCE Psychology. That's why it's soft.
I'd smack anyone if they were to say that the neuroscience stuff that I do is 'soft'
-
I will make allowances for biological pysch, neuro is horrific :P
How is behavioural neuroscience split between the two?
-
I find psychology more interesting than anything else.

Okay so I'm hoping someone can help me out here.
Fixed Ratio or Variable Ratio, which one is more resistant to extinction of the response?
Am I correct in saying Fixed Ratio establishes consistent responses quicker than Variable Ratio, but Variable Ratio is likely to be continued longer after the reinforcement is ceased?

Yeah I believe so.
Also .. dont forget .... I HIGHLY doubt vcaa will put a question about them specificily. they always put one or 2 on the paper .. but I havnt seen one that is DIRECTLY asking for differences in partial and continuous reinforcement in regards to speed and extinction/extinguish rates.
So , dont stress about it too much.
However I think you are correct .and also .. there should be a Graph of them in ur psych book which shows the rates etc etc .. ( i cant give u page ref as I dont have my book anymore sorry ).
:(

Thanks Matt123,
I know the page you're referring to. Of all the course content material I'm still finding these reinforcement schedules the most challenging.
Thankfully I've only ever seen them on MC and 'fill in the space' questions in the short answer.
Just out of curiosity, how many prac exams would be ideal to do before the exam?

Hahahaha man dw im in the same position as you. these partial reinforcements are probably , i think , the hardest thing on the course ... and diff exams give you diff answers so it becomes quite confusing.
but honestly .. I dont think you will ever have to differentiate between them on the actual exam... never seen one ( not in this course anyhow) and I doubt we will. but just know them , because they will ask you general questions , as you would already know.
Also.
I think ... depends how well you wanna do.
if your aiming for full marks , I would suggest keep doing exams until you get 2-3 in a row 100%.
if you get something wrong on an exam .. dont do the next one untill you understand why you got that question wrong.
Goodluck my friend
:)

No its ok Il just get it at school tomoro thanks anyway
