Title: MAV 2010 geo and trig Q4B exam 2

hi people, need someone to explain to me why the area ratio is used and not the volume ratio in mav 2010 exam2 q4c trig, it asks for fraction of soil yet the solutions say area ratio is used.

nah they made a mistake in that paper. My teacher gave us the proper answer.
