Well I've finally started doing past VCAA exams and noticed that pre-2008 the A+ cutoff for Unit 4 Exam was in the high 70's.
2008/2009 have been in the low 80's, you think VCAA may give us another hard exam? I'm hoping so :)

Then again our mid year was hard. So I dunno. I normally wouldn't think they would make two difficult exams for one year, but considering that all but one of the exam writers this year is new I reckon it's just them and they like putting on harder questions. Personally, I'd like a hard exam, I just hope I don't find it hard my self haha.
My bet would be it will be exactly like the mid year, very low A+ cut off or maybe just a lowish one..

Chief assessor was saying it at the lecture I went to. Apparently there's 8 people, and in 2010 they got rid of 7 out of the 8 and hired 7 replacements. So only 1 person from original writing team who wrote the 05 to 09 exams was on this years writing team supposedly. It makes sense though, cos the 2010 exams were VERY different to past years. It's the same lot of new exam writers for the 2011 exams so for all the 2011 psych people it's best to check out the 2010 exam because it'll be most similar to that, in terms of how they write the questions.
Um 76.5/90 or 13.5 marks lost or 85% was the A+ cut off :D
Have you applied for a statement of marks for unit 4 j.w.? Did you get a mid year one at all?

but i've applied for both the unit 3 and unit 4 ones :)

Obviously you didn't fail! Very far from it haha.
um if you sent it on friday you should get it today or tomorrow I'm assuming. Last year when I got my business one it came pretty quick, took like 3 days after I posted it. You should go check the mailbox now, it could be there already! haha.
I sent one for english + psych yesterday so I'll let you know when I get the letter.
um I got 83.5/90 for the mid year :D Such an annoying mark though BECAUSE three of those marks lost were due to me changing three answers in MC at the end all from the right ones to the wrong ones. So annoying. I made sure I didn't change a single unit 4 answer at the very end and that worked out much better for me haha.

I found the visual perception MC really dodgy, especially the perception/sensation bits..
and haha just checked, not here yet :P

umm of course. I could never forget the stupid mistakes I made!! haha. It's like imprinted in my memory unfortunately.
Q2: Corpus Callosum, for some the thing Roger Edwards said at his lecture about NEVER saying "tranferring" as that's incorrect made me change it from option A which I had originally to option D. I really should have thought that through more cos I knew that the corpus callosum wasn't located in the cerebral cortex. Lapse of judgment on my behalf.
Q12: I originally put sympathetic and parasympathetic "have opposite effects although they work together" cos I thought the other statement that "they cannot both be active at the same time" was too definitive and they're usually wrong in psychology. However, due to my nervousness I second guessed myself and changed it at the end.
Q20: "One key difference between visual sensation and visual perception is that"
I originally put "visual perception involves a cognitive process while visual sensation does not" but then changed it to "visual perception can be consciously controlled while visual sensation cannot" at the end. This one I don't know the reason behind. I just remember swapping it at the end as well in my fit of panic.
I thought the brain and nervous system sections of the mid year were both fairly tricky and required analytical skills instead of just rote learning. Plus I agree about the sensation/perception. They barely ever asked about that in past years and yet there were 3 MC questions on it. That kinda caught me by surprise..
So yeah, moral of the story. Don't swap answers at the end!

yeah I'm pretty sure i got question 20 incorrect as well,
as well as:
Question 22
When entering a darkened cinema from bright afternoon sunlight you have difficulty finding your seat
because
A. the photosensitive substances in your rods and cones take time to adapt.
B. it takes time for your cones to take over the function of your rods.
C. your cones cannot function in such circumstances.
D. the absolute threshold has not been met.
apparently the answer was A, a phenomena known as dark adaption..
surprisingly i saw dark adaption quite a few times in practise papers but never bothered to check up what it actually was coz i didnt think it could be assessed haha.
did you get this question correct?
and i just realised monday/tuesday have been two public holidays so my statements probably wont come for another few days aha

Yeah, I got Q2, 12 and 20 wrong on the mid year for MC (All the ones I bloody changed! grrrr >:(). For end of year I'm pretty sure I only got one wrong in MC, but I'll have to wait and see what my statement says.
I also thought the dark adaptation thing was a bit random. Although I read about it in Psych Notes so that was pretty lucky.
I'm interested to see how much are marks differ by.

haha well thats not bad, 3 marks on mc, im pretty sure i would have lost 4-5,
so unless i absolutely perfected SA, you would have beaten me on the mid year aha
um which MC was this for the end of year?
i hate how vcaa delays posting the solutions and paper until a waay later time..

punishment weakens undesirable behaviour, there was no mention of any behaviour at all that was undesirable, yet alone weakening the likelihood of it occuring?

^ Too true. I just don't understand how they could say it's B though. The annoying thing is that there's nothing to do now! haha. I actually don't know anyone who picked option B. I know I shouldn't really care anymore, but stuff like that is still annoying. I hope they explain their reasoning behind it otherwise I will send in a complaint!

Hahahaha :D Yeah, I know I shouldn't care about it, cos I'm over the moon with my score, but I just can't help but feel annoyed about getting something wrong when I can't see how the correct option can be justified.
How the hell can "B" be correct?!?! What do you think of it bomb? I don't remember anyone ever suggesting 34 could be B on that answers forum you made!
Premier's award is still on the line! haha :P

Well I asked Millerpede twice, and she checked the statement three times to make sure.
34 is definitely down as B.
It's just silly cos Maryanne was trying to increase a behaviour, reinforcement = increase behaviour while punishment = decrease behaviour. So surely that should eliminate the punishment option?

Hahahaha. Taking it up with VCAA worked last time ;) ;) But I guess that was BEFORE the exams were all assessed... If only we knew about Q34 earlier. I was more sure that one was right than Q6 option D! (Still can't believe that email worked...All people who got Q6 wrong should buy me and bomb a present :P) haha
Just wait till I get my statement. Should be monday or tuesday. I just wanna see for myself before I go sending a complaint haha.
Surely they couldn't do anything about it now though? All the scores have been distributed so they'd have to change EVERYBODY'S psych score :( So I don't think there's much point. The only thing it could affect is premier's awards cos that still needs to be finalised I guess...
I'm not annoyed about my score or what I got on the exam, it's just the principle of a question being marked incorrectly... Hopefully someone can give a reasonable explanation for option B soon perhaps?

Anything can be adjusted mate.
I remember in 2006, they had to re-scale everyone who took Methods 3/4, because they used the percentages from the old study design rather than the new one that had been implemented that year.

Although I should mention you've sort of left it a bit late - they burn the exam papers after a while.
To your question, I would say it's D. I think the examiners may have gotten hung up on the ordinary definition of punishment (which that would be), and the definition in the behaviourism paradigm.
