Title: Absorbtion/Emmision Spectrum
Post by: Chavi on November 09, 2010, 05:12:28 pm
Does anyone 'get' the difference between the spectrum produced for absorption vs emission spectra?

Absorption spectrum: when electrons jump to higher energy levels. Spectrum looks like roygbiv, but with narrow band of black at the absorbed wavelength

Emission spectrum: when excited electrons return to the ground state. Spectrum is black, with a band of the colour only at the same position as the black band from the absorption spectrum
