Title: Energy Profiles and Bond Strength
Post by: jackchan1993 on November 10, 2010, 07:59:40 pm
If there is an exothermic reaction:
1. do the products have more or less energy than the reactants?
2. do the products have stronger bonds or the reactants?

solve my queries!

1) they have less than the reactants
2) stronger bonds? ( im not sure about this, someone verify )

1. products have less energy
2. products have stronger bonds
Consider the reverse equation, the products require more energy to break the bonds to form the reactants (endothermic equivalent)

Just remember, if there is more energy, it will be more unstable. So less energy - stronger bonds - more stable.
