Hi everyone!!! ;D
We are having our annual Unimelb/VN meetup again for all newbies and current students! I copied stuff from TinyApple's post and edited it a bit. I know I'm lazy haha. Most of us should be on campus on Tuesday for orientation which should conclude at about 2pm. So we will have the meetup after :P
When: After Orientation Host Program, on Tuesday 22nd Feb at 2pm and Thursday (Time to be confirmed).
Where: Same spot as last year's meetup - System Gardens . Its E12 on the map at the back of the student diary. Also, this is a safe place on campus so if anyone tries anything funny they'll get in trouble with campus security.

What: Socialising, enjoying the garden, maybe someone could bring their balls to kick around, get some advice from your fellow members etc. After that we will head to MUMS room to meet people like Ahmad and Neobeo and play poker. On Thursday, we will head around campus to collect freebies if anyone's interested. Check out our past events: 2008, 2009, 2010. Feel free to suggest anything else though :) Please post if you would like to come and I will update the list when I can. Hope to see you there!

I very rarely get my ID checked, and I'm only 18. But then, I think it depends who I'm with. Kind of lucky too, because apparently I don't look like my ID anymore.

Yeah, I haven't been ID'd in the carlton area since first year (which ironically was when I was underage)

They shall do no such thing! Also, corruption is the entire purpose of being a host. ;)
As for ID...Pugg's do after about 8pm and the Queensberry occasionally do when you order at the bar (never when you enter, though). A guy I know used a fake ID at Pugg's for ages, then went there on his birthday with his new real ID and they were like "It's your birthday, eh? You've been coming here for weeks. You can either leave now, or I can turn your over to those police on the corner."

I think I get an email about it at some point. I didn't really pay much attention when they were explaining everything.

From memory, there is a website which you can login to see who's your host. Also, your host will contact you to confirm your attendance.
EDIT:
How will I meet my Host during Orientation?
Your host will contact you by phone or email before Orientation and tell you where to meet your group. You will also be able to log in and view your host group details from 12 February on the host database. If for some reason you are not allocated to a host group, or cannot find your group, go to South Lawn at 9.15am on 22 February and we'll find you a group. See more info about the Host Program.

We will be meeting at 2pm. I don't think the orientation host program will go till 2pm (it starts at 10am), so there should be time to eat/rest beforehand. Don't worry if you will be late, just come find us at System Gardens or the MUMS room (ground floor Richard Berry building H20) :)
If anyone wants to come early and wait for people, let me know. I don't think I'll be there on time as I'm doing enrollments at EPSC and may hold me up >:(

There are exchange info sessions every 5-6 weeks all year and they're all the same, lol. Just guest speakers saying how it's worth it and explaining the application process (more detail on their website).

O camp was awesome but I feel like it'd be awkward if it like turned out I hooked up with someone from VN or something. Not that I remember half of the people at O camp, but people seem to be remembering me better than I remember them.

Yes. Don't even try to get in without it; we use Colonial's bouncers, who have the usual electronic ID scanner setup most clubs have.
