Post by: man0005 on February 15, 2011, 08:28:50 pm
Question relating to Chapter 3 Review Question 24g)
The answers says its random error, but shouldnt it be systemic since the error would come from misreading the burette?

Well, to my understanding.

It'd be random because , in theory, we've done everything correct in the application for the method. However, when looking for the titre, sometimes we may go over, or go lower than the end point, where we have attempted to be as precise as possible, which is outside our control.

hmm i see what you mean
would a question like that meant to be clearly random, or can it also be considered systemic to an extent?

I don't think so, considering that the person doing the experiment is being rational and not being stupid.

Like, for instance, doing your burette or pipette wrongly would be considered systematic error.
