When you guys get to and from school, do you get off and on at MC or Flinders?
-
I used to go to Uni High (which is opposite Melbourne Uni), I found that you save 5-8 mins (depending on tram traffic) by tram if you get off at MC instead. But if your train goes to Flinders first and then loop, it won't matter at all.
-
Yea most of the time its loop I was thinking maybe if they stop at filnders for like 5mins, theres a greater chance I'll catch an earlier train while at MC I might miss and catch a later one.

Which train are you taking from the city? I always trammed down Elizabeth/Swanston to UoM's way...
(unless you are taking the Upfield line and then taking a 19 tram from Jewell or something to uni, but I think thats slower)
-
Cranbourne/Pakenham
-
If you get off at flinders you are more likely to get a seat on the tram. At MC you are more likely to get squashed on the tram.
-
If you are travelling from the East or South East, then Melbourne Central is generally the better option (unless you are on a direct train, then it would be better to change trains at Richmond and again to a tram at Melbourne Central or get the train from Flinders).
If you are coming from the west, then North Melbourne -> 401 bus is the best option.
Also, depending which side of the uni you are going to, different trams may be better. E.g. If you are going to the west side (e.g. Med buildings, etc) then get the 19 from Elizabeth Street. If you are going to the east side, then Swanston street is the best option.
They will be making trams quicker along Swanston street soon though.
-
I got off the train at Flinders the other day and got a ticket inspector fine. Dicks.

That sucks. They should be on trams, where 90% of people don't touch-on/validate/have a myki or metcard, all of which are illegal.
-
It sucks that he got a fine for not having a ticket?

If he didn't have a ticket, then fair enough (not sure what rustic_metal got fined for). Some of my friends have been fined for having a yearly myki and not touching-on, that sucks.
-
Didn't have my concession card yet. I'll get out of it.

what ive always shown my High school ID and theyve always let me off..
-
I keep putting off getting my concession card ... I should probably get onto that then.

Because all high school students get concessions but not all tertiary students do (technically I guess)
-
Mmm, that. Also the fines are there for revenue raising to compensate for lost revenue from fare evaders, so they hand them out on a letter of the law basis, rather than judging it in the spirit of the law.
-
For Hurstbridge, which goes to Flinders before the loop, it is quicker to get the tram to uni but due to my hate of the tram I always get off at MC IF I have a lecture on the Swanston St side of campus.
Any lectures close to the Economics area/Med area/Royal Parade side, I get off at Flinders and catch the number 19.
I HAVE ALWAYS WONDERED THIS OF EVERYONE EVER.
-
If the train goes through the loop, MC, if not, usually Flinders
-
Always at Flinders Street - it significantly reduces the variance of the time taken to board a suitable tram, thus resulting in a less painful life experience.
-
My train doesn't go through the city loop so I'm stuck with Flinders. It is nice to get a seat on the Swanston street tram though!
-
I get off at Flagstaff and take an awkward combination of buses and trams to uni.
-
I'm on the hurstbridge line so I get off at Flinders in the morning but get on at Melbourne central.
I'm considering riding from Clifton hill instead. I think it'd save me about 10 minutes, it's only ~4km.
I might try it out over the weekend and see.

Hursty line represent.
-
I get off at Flinders when I come in the morning so I can get a seat, but MC when I go at 11.
Also some lady on the Epping line comes all the way to Preston and asks "this is Hurstbridge isn't it?".
BTW. Mavis are you in chem 1, 1pm stream? I think I saw you the other day.
-
She probably forgot to get off at Clifton Hill.
Epping > Hurstbridge anyway, closer to my house
-
Trains these days...
The 200/201/203/205/207 buses from Johnston Street ftw.*
*It still has its flaws but probably more reliable than Metro. And I haven't seen a ticket inspector on those buses.
-
Definitely Flinders over MC on average. The train stops for quite a while at Flinders and you're basically guaranteed to get a spot on the tram.
-

That I am! :)
Where did you seeee me?
COME SAY HELLO TO ME I am lonely doing first year again, all my friends are second year.

Yeah Epping > Hurstbridge. I get off at Epping though :/
I don't think she forgot though, she thought she was ON the Hurstbridge train.

Haha I'm kinda worried it wont be you though! I saw you at the Elizabeth Murdoch theatre I think, a few rows from the back.
I'm certainly not shouting out "mavisgibbons" in the middle of a lecture theatre :P

Yeah, those busses are heaps better than the train. Pity I have to wait for a specific one.

1. Nobody gets stabbed on the Hustbridge line like seems plausible on Epping, just beaten up and hit on by creeps.
2. It probably is me...I THINK. I was like...middle section and up a fair bit.

Yeah you were sitting to the right side if you divide the theatre up the middle?
Anyway for now I'll just watch you try to figure out who I am.

I've never seen any ticket inspectors on buses before.
Going to uni: see above.
Going home: QV, yay.

Nooo don't do that I barely recognise friends I've had for years.
Since you do Chem 1 I will ask you - does the ILT actually count for anything towards your grade? I know it says the 'material is assessable' but does the score you get really matter, or is it just the attempt?
-
Yup, the mark is irrelevant - you just need to attempt it :)
-
There will be three MCQs on the exam based on the ILT material though, one from each ILT
-
so guys are there trains to and from oakleigh tomorrow?
Looked up the time table seems that the only afternoon train is 6.48pm at flinders so thats the only time I can get back?
-
Alright wicked that is fine then.
I just wanted to know if my relatively crappy mark was that crucial or if I could just rectify the situation later on.
-
Anyone know if the chem prac reports count?
I got a non-functional burette today and my prac screwed up beyond repair :(

MY PIPETTE WAS NON FUNCTIONAL and it had to be changed and she was like 'don't bother doing the calibration again' so clearly I got the answer wrong, sigh.
You are not alone.
But yes they do count, marginally, as far as I know...
-
Pracs are 20% all up, not sure whether it's an even breakdown or top X pracs etc.

Damn! You think I can apply to redo the prac?

They shouldn't penalise us for this stuff :(
-
Did you tell your demonstrator during the prac that your burette was broken? If not, why not?
If this sort of thing happens again, use the data of the person next to you (this is what they'll tell you to do anyway). But relax, the data is only 1 mark on the report, it's more important to answer the questions and address the experiment etc.
-
My demonstrator obviously knew because she got me the new pipette but when I asked if I should write her a note explaining that for the calculations she said no...which means she technically can't penalise me that much, right? Oh okay 1 mark I'm no longer bothered :D

Yeah I told him, he didn't tell me to use someone else's results, but to keep going with a new burette :(
