Here are some:  :D

In the fluid rush of speech Thornhill suddenly heard words.  Be off, the man was shouting.  Be off!  It was his own tone exactly. p.6

The gentry seemed another species, more enigmatic than any Lascar, and it came upon his as a surprise that they might be driven by the same impulses as any other human animal.  p.29

In any race for survival with this Henry, Thornhill knew he would have been the victor, lad though he was- shipwrecked, for instance, the dandy would have pined and drooped and died, while he himself would have known how to prosper.

This place had been here long before him.  It would go on sighing and breathing and being itself after he had gone, the land lapping on and on, watching, waiting, getting on with its own life. p.80

He saw that she understood it as a transaction.  In exchange for a crust of bread he would leave them be.  But later they always found him back again, leaning up against the wall. p.91

There were no signs that the blacks felt the place belonged to them.  They had no fences that said this is mine.  No house that said, this is our home.  There were no fields or flocks that said, we have put the labour of our hands into this place.  p.93

Thornhill bent down and pushed a seed into the dirt with his thumb.  Ain’t nothing to me if it’s dead or alive, he said breezily.  Long it says William Thirnhill got here first.  p.149

In London William Thornhill counted as a big man, but these men made him feel small.  p.195

It seemed important to act the part of the host.  That way, they were his guests.  p.195

A conversation had taken place.  There had been an inquiry and an answer.  But what inquiry, which answer? p.197

She had never spoken of her loneliness.  And he had not thought to ask.  It was part of that area of silence between them.  p.157

As for the blacks, I give them when they ask.  She hesitated.  They help themselves now and then, I turn a blind eye.  p.166

You got to work it out your own way, he said.  But when you take a little, bear in mind you got to give a little.  p.169

He could not turn his back on this place.  How could he bear to go on passing in the boat and see some other man there?  It would feel like giving up a child.  p.271

It seemed that he had become another man altogether.  Eating the food of this country, drinking its water, breathing its air, had remade him, particle by particle… This is where he was: not just in body, but in soul as well.  p.289

But whatever Sal knew, or guessed, was with them and could not be shifted.  He had not thought that words unsaid could come between two people like a body of water.  p.324
