Extract the lead within your pencil manually (use a mini-saw), and replace it with an plastic ink tip. That way you retain the 'pencil' feel without compromising your test results.

Yeah the 2011 cover page states that we answer in either blue or black pen :\

You need a pen (black and/or blue ONLY) because all chem papers are getting scanned, and pencil may not show up (ie. = loss of marks).

hm that sucks
they should definitely add extra pages, or a lot of extra lines
way to annoying when you cross a whole answer out and you have to utilise skills acquired from tetris.

+1, I also use pencil a lot :(

Its so much more practical in exams, but I can see how it could get badly smudged or pages ripped through intense rubbing out...

they say pencil won't show up but it really does (according to my chem teacher who marked papers last year), so if you really can't stand writing in pen it doesn't matter THAT much

Pretty sure that if they can't see it on the scanned pages they'll just mark the original copy instead so if you're willing to try your luck with a slightly less happy examiner then pencil is fine. :D

For a lefty, smudging with a pen is worse than a rubber :(

So what's the go then, don't add your MC answers onto the page until the very last minute so that you don't make a mistake?

I actually have an erasable pen but I'm not sure if its appropriate to use it.
I'm going to confirm with my teacher whether or not I would be allowed to use one of these.
Hopefully this idea helps some of you guys out :)
