Title: Level of tomorrow's exam
Post by: chemkid_23 on June 14, 2011, 01:52:58 pm
Do people have a vague guess on the level of tomorrow's exam
ie straight forward like the 08, or a bit harder like the 09?
Doing the 2010 soon

The standard will probably be between the '09 and '10 one. It will definitely be more reasonable than the '09 one though, VCAA definitely learnt from their mistakes there... too many one mark questions and wayy too long a paper.

I reckon it'll be harder because there's less SA questions

how many short answer Qs are there in tomorrow's exam again?

Yeah, 8 Qs and 52 marks. I'm thinking a lot of theory questions, unfortunately :(

I hope it'll be okay. Physics and bio ppl cam eout from my school angry and stressed cause it was so hard. :S Now we're all afraid of chem's paper....

My guess it will be between 2009 and 2010 difficulty. 52 marks for 8 questions suggests there's going to a fair amount of those "theory" questions tagged onto every question! D:

ah that sounds alright
hopefully not too long, but I rather fancy more theory than working out, especially those long stoich questions where they just give so much info and values, that they're just there to annoy you and aren't even needed
which is why im going to start on SA before MC

Yeh the AR from 2010 said that descriptions of theory and different techniques were badly done so thats what Im expecting.. .

Considering the level of the other exams.... prepare for the worst.... I have a bad feeling about it. Shorter than '09 but will be much more challenging and less straightforward I think....

The physics exam was way harder than all the previous years. I'm expecting the worst for chem aswell.

Physics wasn't that much more difficult, made some really really dumb mistakes though, goodbye 50 :'(

This year chem's exam will probably be mild-hard somewhere between 2009's paper and 2010's paper imo :P

Agreed. So much.
At least theory isn't so confusing. I used to prefer calculations but once I started doing more of those questions, I wanted to cry. Theory is relatively straightforward.
Plan to do all questions that are not calculations first then move on to the simple calculations leaving the complicated ones last.

I'm looking past mistakes now and doing the 2010 exam again later just to make sure I got my knowledge where it's supposed to be.

I like chem calculations :(

Me too. I never know how in depth I need to be in theory questions.

General consensus is more:
1. Gas Laws - Key mol ratios
2. Theory - different techniques
3. AAS

What part of AAS do you hate? The theory or the questions?

+1 Esp when you get the calibration graph and you have to do all the conversions argh.

First time i saw that question i was like WTF>.... SO MUCH INFO.. WHAT DO I DO???!?!?!?!?
Second time i did that exam i just picked it apart drew a little cool flow diagram and it worked out for me :D

I just did the vcaa 09, nearly got all of the last question right, except for forgetting to times the mol by the molar mass of sulfur (because the number looked complex enough!)

~60/73

Ahh was feeling so good, got A+ for all the VCAA's then I decided to do my first NEAP, 2010 one. Got 69%, feel like shit now lol. Hopefully the exam tomorrow isn't too bad.
