Title: Psychology first year
Post by: gemgem49 on June 14, 2011, 05:12:29 pm
Well I haven't even been accepted into UoM and won't find out for another month but I had a query.

I want to do psychology, but MBB1 is only offered in semester one and I'd be starting mid year. Looking at the handbook entry for MBB2 it doesn't say that subject has any prereqs for it. Does that mean I can do MBB2 in semester two then MBB1 next year? Would this severely disadvantage me if I did do this, not having done the first semester unit and not having any VCE psych knowledge?

Thanks guys

You probably won't be very disadvantaged at all since MBB2 is very different from MBB1 and yes you can do sem2 first. You can also skip the entire of first year psychology which is what I did with biopsychology- probably not recommended.

Just be aware that if you want to /major/ in psychology you do have to take both subjects.  You can just take MBB2 otherwise.

Also, vexx: when you enrolled in Biopsych this year did you get some email from the EPSC saying you weren't enrolled in a full time load?  I got said email a couple of weeks ago and chose to ignore it until now because of exams but I'm wondering if it's just because I'm only enrolled in two first year subjects and my third subject is Cog Psych from second year.  I'll probably go and speak to them about it anyway, but I'm unsure if it's something to do with my study plan (which says I'm enrolled in three subjects next semester) or if that could be the reason.

Yeah I did get that email, but that was talking next semester as I only had two subjects enrolled for it yet as Im undecided.

I got that email too, your still considered full-time if you do 2 subjects in semester 2 and one over summer break, or vice versa

At least you'll be dealing with the EPSC and not the Arts Faculty.

Arts Faculty - Massive lawlz.

Even EPSC is ridiculous, you realise I emailed about an appointment at 1am last night and woke up to FIVE MISSED CALLS from a private number and freaked out thinking someone had died.  I also only woke up to another call.  But no it was just the EPSC trying to make an appointment.

So the five missed calls were from the EPSC?

Hahaha yes!  They sent me an email telling me it was them calling.  I sorted it out though, it's okay now.

LOL  At least they had the staff to call you back, albeit 5 times.  The Arts Faculty actually advertises to get into a queue by texting them.  Massive lawls.

Yesss I know I'm so glad they only introduced that after I left.  I often have friends who I meet for lunch that say 'oh in forty minutes I have to go back to the student centre because I'm in the queue'.
