Title: NEAP 2011 Q
Post by: Andiio on June 14, 2011, 07:59:39 pm
Section B, Q2d; are we supposed to answer with 2 sig figs (because of the 10g) or 3?

Thanks!

Can you write out the question? I can't find my exam list on my computer...

10g isn't two sig figs as there is no decimal point after it so it is assumed infinite.
the lowest is 3 in that question being 15.0g or 20.0mL

Hmm I'm probably wrong lol not sure as I always use the lowest sig figs that are in decimals. The solutions gave it to 3 sig figs so I'm not sure.

i was told sig figs only apply when there is a decimal, because logically speak why would they write 10g, then 15.0g apart from the fact they're trying to trick you.

Haha whoops totally forgot about that.

Another Q, do the sigfigs of absorbance values count? I don't think they do, since they're literally always set to 2 dp?

don't follow the absorbance value, its not acutally a unit of measurement as per say, if you get what I mean.
