Do you guys think Monash is really ugly? That the buildings are old and crappy? That its all windy, open, bare and in the middle of nowhere?
-
Which campus are you talking about? Clayton?
-
relax Fyrefly, haha
I quite like the Clayton campus. I admit the aesthetic features of Monash buildings do not compare to the old-styled beautifully architectured buildings at UoM, but it is a lot more spacious, and walking around the campus you don't feel the claustrophobic suffocation closely-spaced buildings usually induce.
I can actually stretch out on the lawn without hitting 30000 other people, and guess what? there are actually plenty of lawn spaces that people can chill-out on
it's a great campus =]

woooooooo-sah.

Everyday on the bus to uni the first thing I see is the menzies building
looks just like a giant prison to me. how can such an ugly building house such a range of beautiful subjects (i.e. languages, international studies etc)
it's so depressing
-
LOL giant prison... thats a good term to use i went there for some of my tutes last semester that place is like a prison well its a more like maze the person who designed that building was so fucked up it like winds around and around and then left right confusing when you don't know the building well, but its cool with the escalators lol!
but monash hmm its alright i dont really mind how the buildings are... wateva...lol oh and its not in the middle of 'no where' lol
-
Ahaha, the Menzies and all it's names...the 'Clayton Wind Tunnel' among others. The irony is that it was designed by Melbourne Uni architecture grads.
To say *all* the buildings are old and crappy is generalising a fair bit...there are some nice buildings here and there. And yes, open spaces can be a good thing. You should check the campus out yourself before passing judgement on it, in other words.
@ Mao - I would've disputed that, as those lawn areas have always been closed when I was on cmapus. That said, the recent restoration seems to have helped a LOT...except I'm not around to enjoy it :(

There are a few ugly, not old buildings at Melbourne Uni, too. Also, if you look inside the rooms of most universities, they're all equally unexciting/ugly. Walls that look as though they were painted in the 70s and the like, some of my tute rooms don't even have windows!
