Melbourne just jumped up in my preference list
-
Everyone just loves Melbourne. It's the place to go LOL
-
i didnt go :( i've been there before though, for a school thing, but we only went into this really high ceiling room...can't remember what it was called.
but besides that, i've got no idea. what was so good about it?
-

Lolz, it's not that great...
I think I went to the open day in yr11 ('05), didn't bother in yr12. I dunno, it's just a little too crowded for me...
That being said, I will probably do a course there this summer, if all goes to plan.
-
it was OK i thought- couple of the people gave weak answers when i asked about the JD's advantages over LLB but hey there are none....
Did anyone see those roaming guys with cameras...had a good interview with them but what the hell was it for???? lolz
-
I went.
I loved the freebies - drinks, sausages, 4 chupa-chups, popcorn....
I also decided to randomly visit the colleges, despite living really close to the uni. I'm in love with Newman College - it's so like Hogwarts! Sigh.
And I've also somewhat decided what I wanted to do at uni.... feminist here I come.

ohh godddddddd

i think monash would be the best for me due to it's open area and relaxed feel. It seem as though melbourne has too much pressure :S for some reason. La trobe would be good in sense that it's very social from what i've heard and seen.

Huh. Where were the interview/camera people. I didn't seem em.
-
Wow, the reaction to UoM open day is very positive! We must know how to put on a good show, or the other universities must just give off a very bad impression - I'm used to what it's like here and I honestly can't say I reacted this way when I started learning at UoM... hmm... (posting from a UoM computer, haha)
-
Tbh I liked UoM open day a lot less than Monash open day (I was in the area at the time, only reason why I went)
I'm curious as to where people live, from my observations inner city people like melbourne better and people who live further out like monash. I found monash a lot more friendly and less stuck up which is one of the reasons why I am here (the other is of course, it is 3x closer)
-
My friends and I, didn't spot any "stuck-up" people (and two of my friends are going to monash lul) so I don't know what your talking about. The representatives were really nice and helpful (except for one professor, but that's natural to have one lol).
-
I don't understand the "stuck-up" claim at all!
What was the difference?
-
The general impression of prestige, i think...
Though many people I know from UoM are cool and relaxed, some are over-zealous when it comes to a discussion about which uni is better or worse. *cough cough you know who you are*
I was turned away from UoM at the first KLD event [lol, exactly to the opposite of its purpose]. They kept on reinforcing that KLD is somehow "elite", and being in UoM with this great prestige signifies this elitism. [i was going to say something after this but now it completely escapes me how that something even made sense...]

I thought the day was pretty good in general.
Except they totally screwed up the Dip in Music talk and just when it got to me in the free sausage sizzle they ran out of bread lol.

Personally, despite coming from "inner regional Australia" ie a little town near Geelong, I found the atmosphere quite friendly. However most of my friends didn't even bother going to the open day and seem quite content with Deakin (the local uni). I find Melb. Uni has a more fast paced, gobal vibe which appeals to me.
-
What's a gobal vibe?
-
an internationally recognised degree.
-
Wow I've never heard of that

One of my friends from Skevs goes to Newman (Pete Shearman). Apparently it's the UMelb equivalent of Johns at ANU - the jock college. But yeah, UMelb colleges are all rather pretty.
-
Didn't go yesterday, although I wanted to, have 6 SACs this week :/
Oh well, I've been to the campus many times, and already have answers to all my questions about the BComm :)
-
Hehe, my most memorable moments were choking on a Krispy Kreme doughnut (:(); filling out about 5 education surveys for those really cool highlighters; waiting in line for 20 minutes, only to realise all of the sausages were gone; vitamin water and stress balls! Yay, open day was fun (except for the choking ...). :)

was surprised by that, as he is a pronounced atheist. i heard in the interview they sometimes ask you how much you go to church :P

Heh, he went to the same catholic school as me (St. Kevin's) and got 47 in Texts & Traditions in yr11. So I guess he just took advantage of that...

humphdogg, did you go st kevins? are they good in debating? LOL

Yeah, they're usually pretty good. My friend was captain of debating back in 2006. No idea what they're like this year though...

the only example I can think of is someone who isn't at UoM yet!
