Title: Slip rings- commutators
Post by: fredrick on October 29, 2008, 09:56:03 am
I getting very confused with the differece between slip rings and split-ring commutators. I know the commutator is used for DC motors but whats the purpose of those slip rings??

to prevent the wires from tangling as the generator turns [and still keeps the wires connected to the electrodes].

keep the plates [connected to the armature] connected to the external circuit as it rotates.
