don't just need work experience for that?
Nah. When you grad from uni with Acc you're a AICAA (Associate of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Australia). To get to the highest position FICAA (fellow) you need to study additional years to get it. :)

Actually thats incorrect. After 3 years of additional study you become a CA (Standard). Then after like 10 years. You can apply to become an FCA (Fellow)
P.s Applexy GO MACS :)

Yeh I agree with Kairubin. As far as I know you don't actually have any association The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia from just graduating from University. Completing the required subjects at University only allows you to fill one of the requirements that is needed to start the Chartered Accountants Program.
One question: do we pay for the Chartered Accountants Program or does our employer?
-

Bachelor of Nursing and rural health practice

wtf so you need to study for 4+3+10 = 17 years to become a FCA?????? wtf, also why is it so special to become a fellow? do you get paid more?

No no. you study for 3+3 = 6 Years. You get the title of a CA. Then you must be a CA for a minimum of 10 Years. Then you may be up for fellowship. And they don't have to give it to you. So 6 years of study 16 years to become a fellow at the earliest.

You do need to pay some fees.
However generally if you get picked up by one of the big firms they'll pay everything for you

Anything that you can easily put up your sleeves and make you feel like a badass is instant win in my books. Does anybody know where I can get more of these? My glorious circles are starting to lose their shape. :(

Haha, when I get back from placement, we'll go eat pho.
-
Alternativey, you can just do the Graduate Certificate of Chartered Accounting Foundations (off-campus, Deakin) which is a popular one that the Big 4 send non-Accounting grads to. I probably will do this if I end up at a Big 4 firm.
-

Asif you wouldn't want the glory of being a CA. I mean ideally i would want to be a CA of England & Wales but Australia will do :)

It's like getting a specialisation from at a Royal College after doing your medical degree. You're pretty much nothing if you don't do a CPA or CA.
-
If you do your CA you're guarenteed a salary of over 200k a year in one of the big 4 firms

What is a Chartered Accountant?

Chartered Accountants bring their analytic expertise to fields as diverse as strategic planning, market analysis, compliance, change management and the use of information technology.

Never Certain but you have a higher chance. Besides when you get out of uni most big firms (big4) won't take you unless you undertake a CPA or CA program. Big firms usually prefer CA I think. (CA is recognised worldwide. CPA only in a few countries)
CA is like a master except i think its cosidered more than a masters. Like CA > Masters of Accounting.
-
LOL. what. What's the point though, i'll be working in a investment bank (PLSPLSPLSPLSS) lol. I thought you can the FCA like you get the FIAA (just studying). We'll see anyways.
@Brendan, I know :(. Meh, what can you do :P
-
CA is like a master except i think its cosidered more than a masters. Like CA > Masters of Accounting.
Not true. Doing CA gives you a GradDiploma. You can gain credit from this study if you want to get a masters in accounting. In terms of prestige a masters should be more prestigious.
Masters>GradDip
However, in terms of what employers want, I'm not sure whether they'd still want you to do CA if you'd already done Masters. Really not too sure.
-
-BMechatronicsEng
-clayton
-Cause dey offerd me a scholarship lol
-
Depends on your masters, but im guessing most of the big 4 firms want you to be doing your CA
-
Not Yet Available Unit Enrolment
Omg when will they allow us I am dying of curiosity lol
-
i had exactly the same interests as you when i started uni, except u cant do neuroscience as part of science. i think well for me u can only do 2 max.
-
Bachelor of Science - Clayton
Majoring in either Physics or Mathematics
Minor in Biology?
I'm so undecided!
-
u can major in both if u do 2 majors u dont need a minor (which i thought u did , but found out i was wrong) cause u gotta do 8 subjects in 3rd yr so 4 and 4 make up 2 majors...lolz that made no sense right?
-
Bachelor of Science/Bachelor of Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering/Mathematics (compulsory major but planned to double major in it anyway :P)
- Doing Astronomy in first-year because it looked like the funnest units :)
- Clayton
- Double Degrees/Prestige/Not in the middle of the city/AWESOME
-
Bachelor of Science - Clayton
Majoring in either Physics or Mathematics
why not both
-
Doing Astronomy in first-year because it looked like the funnest units :)
ASP1011/ASP1022 aren't that good - many people (ie arts students) do it as an elective for that reason, so they have to dumb everything down so much in order for the cohort not to fail (omg maths run away), so see if you can get into ASP2011/2062 instead. (unless youre into bludge subjects, if so then stay where you are)
-
How hard is the First Year chem.
Like what kind of things to you get to learn because I don't think I can handle chem at Uni but I have to do it for the breadth crap.
-
well if its just for breadth do the easy chm1031 :) lol thats what i did , i only needed a chm for prereq so chose the easiest one .. but yeah its like vce chm all over again...
-
Haha I think I might do that. I only got a 30 raw VCE so chemistry is a major weak point.
-
Hey does anyone have any thoughts about first year atmospheric science or computer science?
-
atmospheric science is awesome!!!! if u get lyle congratz lolz very interesting..only lecture i actually tried to attend all the time and put effort into
-
I am thinking of doing an elective that has nothing to do with science because at this rate. I will end up like eistein just heaps dumber , less beard and obviously hotter XD
-
Hey does anyone have any thoughts about first year atmospheric science or computer science?
I have thoughts about computer science
FIT1002 was so crap I gave up and chose a different unit in second semester than FIT1015 because I wasn't subjecting myself to more torture.
They dumbed down that unit because too many people were failing it, and they are still failing it. They shouldn't be in uni if they're that bad. In the mid semester test for FIT1002, lecturer said (out of 200 people cohort), 1/3rd got 80+, 1/3rd got <50. They are accomodating for the <50 group only. Stay the hell away, especially if you did VCE IT, that was harder than FIT1002
-
- BA (Global)
- Clayton
- International Studies/German (+ diploma of languages)
- Reasons for its greatness: I hate deakin, Melbourne is too far and doesn't have my course, bus to get there runs right past my street (epic laziness). Hot boyssssss. hahahah.

Yeah, 1st year IT units are like that...(but you have to say the same about Physics :P)
It does get better if you stick to it until 2nd year, but you really do need to be into that kind of stuff.

Good on ya! Need more people in IT in general...haha.
You should look at doing an IBL placement in your 3rd year, good chance that one of the Big 4 (either Deloitte or PwC) will want to take you on. Plus, it's another $15,000 in scholarship money on top of whatever you got.
BBIS is a specialist degree (in business systems) - there are no majors.

And btw I'm wondering if anyone knows - is the Law faculty seriously moving to Monash Caulfield in 2011?!

haha thx for the cheering! congratz to u guys to for getting into monash =)
yeah im thinking of the IBL thing.... i was looking into the monash website and found out that i'm suppose to complete like 7 compulsory IT units before being able to apply for it though but i would prefer to do half IT half commerce throughout my course so yeah i've emailed them to ask if i need to do that too
i should really look into the timetable thing soon but ive checked... the earliest is 9am and latest finishes at 5pm ^^
BBIS is a specialist degree (in business systems) - there are no majors.
haha thx for clarifying! i thought that might be the case when i checked the single degree and even THAT doesnt list any majors lol...

Seriously though, the Law faculty at Caulfield will be fucken sick!!! Seriously!!!
They are spending $300 million on quite a few projects (around 400 apartments), some shops and stuff plus the law faculty!
It will be ace!

If you do half-half IT/Commerce units, you will be eligible to apply for IBL after 2nd year (assuming an exact even split and pass on all units). This is what most people do, as double degree students do not apply as school-leavers; rather, they apply as continuing students from what I have seen.
One thing you'll learn about Uni is that it's very unit and unit level centric and not year level centric. For example, if a pre-requisite to completing your course is to complete 8 "first year" units, you can do some of them in 3rd year - the caveat is that often the 2nd year units build on, and have as prereqs, the first year units.

ahh cool so i can apply after 2nd year =) thx again! i hope the IT degree won't be that hard for me... i've hardly had any background on computer stuff >.< but i think most first year subjects cater to that right?
and by the way, what do we need for uni? as in, stationery and exercise books-wise...
