Cambridge. I can't really compare with MQ, but in my experience Essentials has always been the way to go.
Especially if you're an intermediate-advanced student.

I used the essentials textbook - I found the questions great and most of the explanations really good as well. There were some explanations where i was like ??? and resorted to using an external resource.

Maths quest is really good for explanations apparently - their questions are not as good as essentials though (from what i've heard.)

What do you need from the textbook? Learn the content? Apply the content? Tough questions?

I loved the Essentials textbook and used it more than any other textbook (even though I had the Maths Quest textbook also - though I misplaced it after like 3 months because I wasn't using it). Personally found Maths Quest questions too easy though explanations were okay (unlike the Essentials which could sometimes get a bit convoluted and cause more confusion than understanding).

We have a thread on this: Generalised Textbook Summaries

If anyone has anything they'd like to add to that thread, post a reply with your suggestions and I'm sure a mod will edit it into the main post and credit your input accordingly :)
