Hey Guys Can you tell me whether the TSFX Master classes are worth doing or not. I did the summer school lecture for chemistry.

I did the lecture too, and I am not doing the master classes. Mainly because the lecturers weren't overly impressive.

I did them, and I don't think they help me whole heap, unless you think you won't understand he topics ^in class when it is taught and ur teacher won't help you, not really worth it, having said that their notes are really good tho

apparently, i heard that all they do is gather up in a class and everynoe is handed out books. The teachers writes up examples on board, explains a bit, and then expects you to complete the exercises in your handouts. It's pretty awkward because, like above post, the teacher won't help unless you go up to them.
in a sense you're jsut paying big bucks to get a set of stapled papers and to sit in a classroom to do homework.....better getting a private tutor who listens/ works with you?
dunno :P
but i heard the english one was pretty good :P

It depends on what you need. Some people find TSFX decent because they don't need a private tutor to listen to them for a whole hour. Plus, having gone to the summer lectures as well, people are VERY comfortable simply going up and asking questions.
As tram said, the notes are extremely comprehensive, allowing students to do more questions which some find to be a better learning tool than having someone sit there and talk to you about theory you probably already understand.
The other benefit is probably the fact that you're basically compelled to do the work whilst sitting in that class...you could do nothing, but that would be the real waste of the "big bucks".
I know plenty of top students who go to TSFX for these reasons...but if you have a lot of difficulty understanding concepts, it's probably better to get a private tutor who will focus on you.

its probably not worth it going to TSFX for the master classes specifically. but do go to their exam prep ones that come later in may or april and sept for they are EXTREMELY worth it. Being handed out a pile of stapled papers is a huge understatement of what you get. the lecturer's notes are brilliant and the lecturer herself is a very passionate teacher. go to the free lectures that they run to get a feel of what they can give you. the lecturer, irena jaskula, is the one running chem. sarah peng's a bit dodgy imo. give it a shot, and see for yourself.

I went to the  chemistry lectures last year, I think Sarah was pretty good, because she was more to the point that Irena. Irena took too long to get through the notes, and because of that the lectures often finished a bit later than expected. The lectures are alright, if you know the stuff there's really no point in going, unless you just want to refresh everything you learnt

At the moment I'm facing the same question.

I did the masterclasses last year and they were excellent - that being said, it was Year 11. I'm not afraid about the inability of understanding the concept, but the lack of 'interaction' with the teacher eg. asking questions about up and coming SACs. A private tutor may be more helpful in that situation.

If you reckon they were good in year 11 then I think you will find them good for year 12. Normally the teachers who teach year 11 also teach year 12 as well. Tsfx tend to be more thorough and precise with their year 12 notes than year 11 notes

I did the master classes for year 11 subjects last year and didn't like them that much because the notes didn't cover the whole study design. And also the fact that I was doing things at school that Tsfx failed to encompass in their books.
