UMAT-when should you start
lacoste:
I'd say to the 2010 students next year to start the UMAT if you really want an excellent score.
No doubt that the most practice you get = the better score you will achieve.
I would recommend Medentry as I did it this year, however, I found it hard and time consuming to juggle sacs and practicing for the UMAT.
Its better to start early for the Med hopefuls.
Good Luck year 11's.
ps: start after your exams actually but just posting to sign up earlier to the companies that provide umat tutoring as I did not get the opportunity myself.

i was thinking of going to medentry late jan 2010 before school starts, and then doing a few practice exams in the weeks leading up to it. this year it was on the 29th of july, yes? i had a sac on that day (if i would have done it this year), is it on during the day? or after school hours?

Honestly, UMAT is quite a limiting exam to study for though. You'll approach your limit of how much you can improve quite early so make sure you're keeping track of your progress and don't spend excessive amounts of time on it and sacrifice your ENTER at its expense. I started my study about a week after mid-year exams so that gave me around 5 or 6 weeks and that in itself was enough for me to hit my limit. Although I wouldn't recommend this method and it's better to space out your study a bit more, just remember that the UMAT isn't an entirely 'studyable' test and that you just have to admit to the fact that you can't progress any more. It's hard I know, but seriously, I've seen people who've studied for the UMAT from year 11 to the UMAT exam in year 12 and still obtained UMAT marks which couldn't get him into Medicine, together with a slight sacrifice in ENTER due to the time wasted.

Earlier doesn't simply mean better or does it? I mean in general subjects such as science, if you start early you will probably forget everything. It is probably most beneficial to start 1 week before your actual assessment. I don't know if this applies to UMAT though.

Can you tell me more about this limit? How long did it take, and could you push past it? What were the factors, advice, etc
