New or second hand?

Hi all,

I noticed that uni textbooks are significantly more expensive than school textbooks. Do many people buy them brand new?

Also is it best to get textbooks before O-week, during or after?

They have boards up in the student union building with notes about people selling their books. They also have them in the various faculty buildings.
