...Adopting their currency won't change the fact it's more expensive to produce/ship things out here.

Also you say that the union jack has meaning but the national anthem doesn't...erm okay then. I agree with the drivel part but I don't necessarily think it's a question of Australian population being 'migrants'. Some of the biggest bogans I know have no clue about the anthem, I'd say it's due to the fact it's not really a song that a crowd can sing and get passionate about.

That said, as for my reasons stated previously I don't really think we should change it.

i'm contesting that immigrants, who would likely be tied to their own customs would not be nationalistic. I would say bogans are pretty nationalistic though, in their own way...

IT'S time we shooed off our royal parasites. I don't want the Queen as Australia's head of state, and nor do I want her untrustworthy, dysfunctional, self-serving family of heartless opportunists to have any say in our future.

I never realized that the entire idea incenses some people so much (although Alan Howe is an excellent journalist)

From what I've seen as Howe he seems to be employed just to be a more MAXXTREME version of Andrew Bolt XD And this is coming from a Liberal Party supporter too...
I honestly think the average person doesn't really give a crap, hence why the referendum failed (although Republicans like to claim it was all the Howard model...speaking to people I know that's not the case but that might be a biased sample)

Union Jack represents british colonisation. my (extremely vague) knowledge of the national anthem is about it being free and a great country?

Yes, I just don't see the difference to what the two things are supposed to do. Both are supposed to represent to outsiders what a state is (in my mind), perhaps you have a different view though. In my opinion the anthem does some up what Australia is (just as long as they can figure out what girt is XD), despite how slow and arduous it is to sing, just as well as the flag does.

And to Chavi, I generally agree with what Howe says to an extent but feel he takes things to that next level or attacks personally a little too hard if that makes sense XD
