i'm seriously considering the accommodations at Monash, as if i get in next year it will be easier than traveling by car everyday for 2 hours.

i was just wondering is their anyone on VN which lives on campus? how is the accommodation? is it worthwhile?

One of my friends lives at Mannix College (the one across the road from where the buses go). It's really expensive apparently, but he could wake up 10 minutes before the classes start. If you're going to have to travel for 2 hours then definitely consider Monash accommodation.

If you're worried about money, think about sharing a rent house nearby instead. There's heaps of notices and posters up around Monash from people needing roommates, it shouldn't be too hard :)

Residential colleges are very social, probably not the best academic environment but hey, it's probably something you'll really enjoy :)

If you are, start inquiring in September, you do an interview with the MRS, and an offer is made in February. The rate is about $100 ~ $180 per week, depending on if you want to just have a room with nothing special, or an en-suite at Mannix which cooks you food.

It's not bad living at Mannix - you can have as much food as you want for "free" (it's included in your residential fees), so during your lunch breaks you can nip down to college (takes like 3 minutes) and get food.  Also a very social environment from what I hear!  People love it there :)

Thanks everyone that's made things a bit clearer =]

Also another question. As they provide you with an internet connection there, for a monthly fee as I was reading, I was wondering are there any significant restrictions? is their a quota limit like normal internet plans?

Which campus are you thinking of living at?

I am a current first year that lives on campus at Monash Gippsland, it is very nice, no interview needed to get in, it is $115.15 a week excludes food and internet, no internet limit that i know of- last month it costed me $16(which is about 3GB). Like it was said earlier offers are made in Feb.

Is Mannix the Christian 1?
It looks a little nicer than the other halls... prepared meals must be pretty tempting for those worried about the responsibilities of leaving home.

Farrer Hall has a reputation for being pretty sporty, yeah?
Or was that Normanby House..? XD

Anywayz, lots of info on accommodation here:
http://www.mrs.monash.edu.au/

And Nina is right about the advertisements around uni... if you're considering this option (off-campus near Clayton), wander to the Clayton Student Centre one day and take a look @ the advertisements on the bulletin boards.

(Yeah, I know this is bordering on necro, but I think that link may still help people who haven't come across it yet)
