we need johnson back in. bring him in for the WACA test. i no he hasnt had any form and been shit, but its the WACA, known for pace bowlers....
i feel like our attack lacks something wihtout him.

dougy bollinger goes, johnson in and doherty out and steve smith/hauritz/white...i dont reckon we need a specialty spin bowler at the perth test, so maybe white, he can bat as well
katchi out hughes in.... (btw any remember jacques? what happened to him????)
north stays only because it is his home pitch, home crowd i reckon he can get a big one, he looked alright last innnings, still went out cheaply but so did every other aussie batter

Noooo about North! There's no guarantee he will do any good, although obviously the chances are better at home. BUT if he stays on and scores, that's only going to provide him a spot in the team for the rest of the the Ashes series and he'll do nothing like he always does GOD DAMN HIM. Need him to be gone, and stay gone.

Does anyone think that Warne is capable of making a come back?? Ive been talking to some mates and we all think he can, and it has been publicised in the media.

That was in the Sydney Morning Herald today (maybe other papers as well). Answer: No, he hasn't bowled in a match since April.

Australia needs to promote youth, not bring back all the old greats (Warne is 41).

Youth available: P. Jaques, the Marshes (Shaun and Mitch), C. Ferguson, U. Khwaja, A. McDermott

+1, totally agree. Take a few hits in the short-term, and win for a few years after that.

Selector, not coach. Make him a selector, he had a lot of good ideas during the commentary (many of them were identical to the ones in this thread).

IMO what has already been said is correct. All the criticism is coming in a period in which Australia doesn't need it. It's only when Australia is losing that the media attacks individual players (i.e. Ponting, North etc). When everything was rosy, nothing bad was ever written about the team. In a way the criticism was expected, as it was inevitable that Australia was going to cop some flack - the dominance of Australia in cricket was bound to end with key players moving on and all.

The media had to find someone to blame and IMO are over-reacting - i.e. trying to get Warne to come out of retirement. In any case, when Australia starts winning again and players regain some form, the whole fanfare of this will be forgotten.

Bad idea, he'll have too big a workload and won't be able to maintain his show (its a crap show though) and other commitments to the media and his family

That's a bit true, the media are blowing things out of proportion and making things worse than they really are. Not helping at all.

However, disagree with the two examples though. North is not international standard, such criticism was also given to Gillespie or Kasprowitz during the 'glory era', and they were dropped despite still performing better than North (comparatively). Ponting is good when he has good people around him and he is winning. When the chips are down, Ponting goes to 'psychologically' attack his opposition via the media, its not helping the team or his own performance on-field.

But the essence of your argument was correct, the media is going too far.

Hmm i would have to agree with what has been said above.
At least Clarke seems to be hitting the ball more nicely, Hussey has got some form back, Watson is doing fine, Haddin is doing his role.
We need one bowler to stand up in this next test, he needs to take 3+ wickets in each innings to bring some life back into the side.

i was gonna quote everything but it would be huge :)
but i agree, warne either selector or coach, not both. Personally coach, i think he has better tactic ideas to pass on...

and the media is the same with any sport. attack til they get good and then they get off their backs..
good example mike hussey. copped it alot and now he has been our best batsmen, people praising him, and the people who were baggin him are now on the opposite side
