Violence is becoming more frequent in Melbourne

So yesterday, I was walking across the road, it was a pedestrian crossing with no lights so it had that walking sign. And what do you know, I would suspect that the cars would give way so that I could walk when I opened my hand to let me pass. But no! the car drives right past me at high speed, and afterwards revs back to see me on the other side, then starts swearing and cussing at me? And when I tried to explain that I had opened my hand to ask for a stop, he comes out then asks if I wanted to fight. After that, I just ignored him and walked away. I also had friends with me, but all females, so I kinda felt wussed when I walked away. Overall, It was a very intimidating experience, and bad reflection of our society today!

But no, a "muzza" is no racial slur. As much as excal made an attempt to sound mature in that thread, the other guy was correct.

On topic: I don't think your personal experience is really a basis for the topic, as you experienced anti-social behaviour rather than direct "violence". But this type of attitude amongst young people is definitely a source of a fair proportion of the crime that has been going on recently.

To be honest the violence isn't *that* bad it could be a lot worse.

I live in the west side (the dangerous part of the west side) and i feel safe almost all of the time.

I came home pretty late a couple nights ago and i walked home from the station through st.albans (for those who know, also a dangerous place) and i made it home alive.

There have been idiots and assholes in existence ever since there were 2 or more people.

The guy in this case was probably just an asshole with a car

(Violence can get much worse than someone shouting at you and threatening to fight, i've seen a guy get gratuitously beaten to a pulp in sunshine, so at least thank god nothing that bad happened)

I am very impressed with how responsibly you acted. You never want to participate in violence. It is never the answer, and only ever creates problems. The mature thing to do is always to walk away. :)

This reminds me of a time with my friends brother. We were getting fish and chips from the local store, and my friends brother looks at another guys brother, and receives a "What the f**k are you looking at?!" and the usual threats of violence. William (friends brother) does not retort except for a little shrug saying "...what." and as we walk out, my friends brother is nudged into the doorway.

It's funny looking back how petty it was, but you can tell what sort of person he would grow up to be. And it indicates quite a negative trend in society. I scarcely dare to look at certain people for fear of being in a situation such as yours.

EDIT: does anyone else loathe the people that go "are you being smart?!" when trying to pick a fight? (i.e. muzzas)

people are freaking retarded.

i was also walking across a pedestrian crossing with no lights with a car approaching really fast.

I stepped out (cars will always stop for you haha) and got beeped at for 5 seconds straight.

Do people not understand that pedestrians have priority? Feet are much slower than cars.. apparently
