So I find this subject boring

Like, it bores me to tears, but everyone says I should continue because I'm somewhat good at maths and it get scaled up and blahblah. I think I should do something I like, but it's only been like...a few weeks.

What do you think? Is it worth doing if you find it painfully boring?

General Maths.A is actually boring, however if you then choose spesh maths next year, it becomes way more interesting, I find spesh alot more interesting than Gen.A and more fun.

gen a is kinda a stepping stone for spesh, it just gives you some ideas of what you might encounter in spesh, i found it quite fun actually

How about you go on with this subject and concurrently start doing the spesh course. Didn't Damo17 do that last year?

Depends why it is boring.
Is it too easy or is it because you just don't like Maths?

Well I like methods, but before I started methods (in year 10) I never really liked maths.
I like the stuff you do in methods but trigonometry bores me to tears.
and I really don't have the time to do specialist concurrently, but thanks anyway :)

Yeah I did but only a little here and there because I found that what was in the course outline for Gen.A was too easy. Like the complex numbers topic was way too easy so I did some from the spesh course and liked it alot. My advice would be as Costargh said go on with Gen.A but also do some questions from the specialist book. Borrow it from your school library. Just do some questions from there as an extension to what you would be doing in class and it would then aid in your decision whether or not to continue on to specialist next year.

You say you don't have time to do specialist but I don't mean do the whole course, I mean just read over a little bit from the specialist book and do a few questions whenever you have some time to do it to extend your knowledge on the current topic you are studying and hopefully that would be more interesting. However I would only say to do this on topics you feel you know well as it would be useless to go on without understanding the Gen.A theory on that topic.

You say you hate trig but the trig at methods/Specialist level is very different from yr 11. Maybe you could learn reciprocal trig graphs and inverse trig graphs. Or maybe study some trig identities from the spesh book. That might get you interested. Maybe ask your teacher for some extra questions that would challenge you. There are plenty of resources on here for maths that you could have a look at and see if it interests you.

And as True Tears said, Gen.A is really only meant to roughly introduce some of the topics covered in spesh in brief. But for some people it can be too basic and become rather boring. And as you said it hasn't been that long into the year so you will cover alot more topics that you might like.

But it all comes down to whether you have a passion/interest in maths and are willing to go onto spesh. And also your possible career paths.

Hope this helps. ;)

P.S. I didn't mean this to become a sort of essay.

no thats REALLY really useful

I like trig graphs and things i just HATE using bearings and yeah just stuff with triangles annoys me
and maybe it is just that its too easy
i think I will look at the spesh book actually

but does bearing come up in year 12? just so i know

I just looked through the spesh book and I can't find anything on bearings so it's probably not in the course. I didn't like them either.

You would probably get bearings in vector applications.

Yeah your right. But wombifat you needn't worry as it isn't a big part of the course and is only a slight extension from Gen.A bearings. Well that's my opinion.

Ok, I'm sure I can grasp a basic understanding of it
Just so long as the whole "a plane travels 450km at a bearing of 45 degrees and then 50km at a bearing of....etc."
isnt a major part of the course

there will be probably 1 or 2 questions on vectors that require bearings especially short answer questions and even extended response questions. But dont worry that much, the difficulty of bearings in Gen A are almost the same as normal spesh, so dont worry if you find it tricky now, its the same thing next year and you would probably grasp the concept before the start of next year anyways.
