Okay, so im trying to find relationsips using the calculator and after entering values into STAT, my workbook only tells me to go to LinReg(ax+b) and then have L3 and L2 as locations.
How the heck do I do this?
Hopefully somebody knows what I'm talking about and assist me!

Are you using the TI-89?

If so here are the steps

first go to stats/list editor

go into "list1" and type in your 'x' values

then go to "list2" and type in your 'y' values

then press 'f4' and scroll down to 'regressions'

press 2 which is 'Linreg(ax+b)'

then a menu comes up asking for X list and Y list

for X list type in 'list1'

and for Y list type in 'list2'

(You can also press 2ND '-' which is VAR-LINK and find 'list1' and 'list2' in there instead of typing them out on the calc.)

leave the other boxes as they are, then press enter

also make sure your calc is in approx, or auto mode, because if you have exact mode it will say "domain error"

Ok, if you're using the TI-84 or TI-84 Plus, these are the instructions.

When you say you're "trying to find relationships", I assume you're trying to find the Correlation Coefficient. After you enter your data into STAT, the basic steps to finding the correlation are:

1. STAT
2. -> [CALC]
3. press "4" [linReg(ax+b)]
4. ENTER

Now, when you're workbook says have L3 and L2 as locations I think it assumes you've entered your data in STAT, into lists 2 and 3 and not 1 and 2. If you have entered your data in lists 2 and 3 (x and y respectively), then after step 3 above, press 2ND, L2, COMMA, 2ND, L3 and this will make the calculator look in the appropriate columns to find the data.

If however, you've just entered your data into lists 1 and 2, don't bother adding anything after step 3 above because the default is to look in lists 1 and 2. So, basically, if you've just entered your data in lists 1 and 2, ignore what you have in your workbook.

Hopefully this is what you were asking, if not just ingore this post.

Yeah actually, if the calculator says L2 or L3 it just means you're putting the data into the 'list2' and 'list3' column, so when you type in the lists for the X and Y box, make sure you put 'list2' for X and 'list3' for Y

That's what I was after!! After LinReg comes up, I just need to go 2nd, L2, comma....
THANKYOU =D

Haha no worries, yeah it can get a little fiddly at times and is easy to overlook if you're under pressure(aka SAC's + exams).
