Studying Islam has made me an atheist

Douglas Murray says that he stopped being an Anglican after analysing Muslim texts and deciding that no book — of any religion —   could claim infallibility.

Currently Islam is the fastest growing religion in the world and will probably overtake Christianity in the years to come. However it's not just Islam, I think atheism has grown in popularity in this century and is also a major contender for being the future dominant belief of the world. The growth of atheism will be totally dependent on the scientific discoveries we'd make in the future and how many of these contradict the teachings of major religions of the world. As this happens, there will also be others who will mix religion and science together in an attempt to explain humanities' greatest religious phenomena.

Douglas Murray says that he stopped being an Anglican after analysing Muslim texts and deciding that no book — of any religion —   could claim infallibility.

In any case, I think we'll be seeing more people convert to Islam than to atheism because of the sheer amount of publicity the religion is receiving due to terrorism at the moment. Because of these things people are naturally going to be curious about the religion, they will google 'Islam' to find out whether the religion actually does promote violence or see for themselves the ambiguities of the Koran and that it doesn't. A small percentage of these people will convert especially if they have lived in Muslim countries or have friends or relatives who are Muslim. A prime example of this is after the 9/11 attacks in the US,  a lot of African/Americans started converting to the religion of their slave ancestors who may have had roots in Islam. But it's not just African/Americans.

A good religious view i would like to see grow is Agnosticism.

Acknowledge there may be forces in play beyond explanation, and that there is probably some divinity in the universe, just that it isn't defined in the form and essence as a 'god'. But also believe in science?

Yes, i was just thinking about that.

Religious debates never go anywhere, by the very virtue of how faith and belief works. You debating/bashing someones religion wont make them convert or change their mind. It gets nowhereeeeee

But you may be able to silence them, and in that brief moment, you have triumphed.

I have been doing some thinking over these holidays and want to ask a question: "Is it religion that causes wars or the people who happen to be of a religion who use it as a motive to start a war?".

So basically if we removed religion from the world, would wars go with it?

I know religious people and they seem like pretty decent people. Maybe the problem is more the person's psychology than their religion.

I want to change my stance on the issue because my previous posts have been attacks toward certain people and all it does is hurt that person. I have also change my religious view to agnosticism because I can't find any proof that proves/disproves god's existence.

My last question: "Is it really a bad thing for people to have god in their life?"

No, I think it makes this world a better place. Overall it does more good than bad, definitely. Everyone needs to believe in something spiritual.

I don't think it necessarily does more good than bad, nor more bad than good. Nor would I say it makes the world a better or worse place.

Having visited a lot of churches, museums and galleries, and listened to a lot of church music recently, I've realised that as much as religion shits me up the wall sometimes, half the best art and classical music wouldn't be around today if not for those geniuses' belief in some religion. So for that I'm grateful.
