he i have no clue how to do this graphs and relations question 9 from the 2010 exam1 further..

yeah, can anyone help me? please

The way I did it was trial and error cos its simply easier, given the time constraint
But you could also do this:

$H_1 = \frac{1}{2} * L_1 + 3$
$H_2 = -\frac{1}{6} * L_2 + 5$

We know at point b (ie. L=b) , $H_1 = x+1$ and $H_2 = x$
Simply use those coordinates $(L_1 = b, H_1 = x+1)$ and $(L_2 = b, H_2 = x)$
and sub them into the equations giving a set of simultaneous equations:
$x + 1 = \frac{1}{2}b + 3$
$x = -\frac{1}{6}b + 5$

solve for b by eliminating x
