For engineering though, eng maths is supposed to be a good mix of the important stuff from vector calculus and differential equations with an engineering focus, AND it's only one maths subject instead of two, so there's that. I haven't taken the subject so maybe someone who has can confirm, though I know nobody takes both eng math and VC+DE's
Yep, Eng Maths is a combination of Vector Calculus, Differential Equations and some Real Analysis thrown in for good measure. Most either go with Eng Maths or do VC+DE+(Maybe)RA, but not both.
There's not much point in doing both pathways either... you learn the (nearly) same things. Also, the uni stops you from doing so:
- You cannot gain credit for both Eng Maths and DE.
- You cannot enrol in Eng Maths after having completed VC.
- You cannot enrol concurrently in Eng Maths and VC.
- You can enrol in VC after having done Eng Maths.
In my case, I did Eng Maths to free up space for other subjects.
I think BasicAcid asked what others have picked as science electives - I'm eyeing off an Electrical Systems major, my science electives have all been Physiology (1st year Biology, 2nd year Human Phys+RBP, and I'll probs do 3rd year Muscle+Exercise). Yeah... weird, eh?
