I read SparkNotes the night before my year 11 English exam on Macbeth and got an A.

This isn't going to help, BUT I LOVE MACBETH! It's the only Shakespeare play I actually enjoyed reading (having first read it in year 7)!

I would, as shinny said, SparkNote it. Read the 'Modern Translation' if possible, helped me for Richard III :)

From an academic achievement standpoint - only read it if your school sets a Shakespeare text for year 12, you should be fine on summaries.

From an intellectual standpoint - read it and set yourself the challenge of understanding it and get assistance along the way from notes and what have you.

The play is very, very interesting in what it explores and all - have a preliminary read of it all first then focus in class and analyse the text! What else are you going to do in yr11 Eng anyways? :P

When I did it in year 9 (I think), my class acted it out as we read it. Makes it a lot more entertaining. It is definitely worth the read once you can get past the language.
