I know people who did nothing and are finding it very easy. I did about 2/3 (of the course), but looking back, I think I did too much. A lot of 1+2 overlap in the 3+4 course. Just do as many to get yourself comfortable with the course.

Depends how you went in year 11.

If you struggled, definitely build up on your foundation by going through year 11 stuff like probability (only combinatorics), functions (including how to do on calc), and basic diff and anti-diff, and you should be fine to start.

If you aced year 11, I would say you start off with the functions and differentiation portion of Methods, as you should find this quite straightforward until you reach some of the short answer questions.
vce: english, methods, spesh, chemistry, physics, geography.

methods this year is very fast paced, im glad i worked ahead, since my class is all behind and they all are under a lot of pressure,

if you were good, then work ahead, if you are struggling, as taiga said, work with the foundations and you should be alright to start working ahead.

You'd be best brushing up on skills first, I find methods rather easy, but some of my friends who do struggle generally struggle with the following things

1) Solving Trigonometric Equations
2) Graphing Trigonometric Equations with Multiple Transformations
3) Inverse Functions
4) Transformations of Graphs
5) Combinatorics/Probability

Everything else in Year 11 should be second nature to most people who are competent in methods.

If you're good with all the year 11 topics, I suggest rather than to work ahead (and probably forget most of it) go through the first 1/3 of methods, which is on functions and pick out bits that aren't so much on year 11, its probably best to get the overview first and then go for the detail second time around. Most of functions is from year 11.

Diff/Integration has much more new stuff, so just go over a lot there

I wouldn't give proabability too much worry because you'll proabably forget a lot of it by the end of the year.

How do you guys study during the holidays?

Do you guys just read the chapters and do/skim over some examples? Or do you actually go through each exercise questions after questions?
2011 - Biology [38]
2012 - Specialist Maths [34], Maths Methods [40], Chemistry [33], Physics [36], English [34]

do questions until you are confident then skip the similar ones.  i would get a head start on all your subjects considering you're up for a killer year with your subject combo. i wish i had.

it will help to go over it, especially functions and calculus, esp cause youre doing specialist maths, if you dont get a good grasp of methods, you wont find specialist maths easy to understand and youll fall behind in that too, its best to get methods out of the way first :)

Depends.
December: I highly recommend you just relax. Like, seriously. You won't get a holiday like that for a whole year. And the year is going to feel VERY long. RIDICULOUSLY long.

Then when semester starts, I probably would just look at the different kinds of functions. I wouldn't worry about circular functions just yet though.
by book:
Essentials: Chapters 1, 3, 4, 5.
Maths Quest: Chapters 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. Do note: If you are using Maths quest, there is a high chance that you will also be learning binomial theorem in the first few weeks of school. Completely useless information, but it might be on a sac
Heinemann: Chapters 1 & 2

That will pretty much cover what you will learn in term 1, which means once school starts again (plus all the usual interruptions in term 1), you will be able to ask your teachers more specific detail on things you aren't sure about.

BUT: This is the MORE important bit.
If there is ANYTHING in the year 11 course, ANYTHING at all, revise THAT first. You will probably not get a chance to fix it!
