1) The leaning tower of piza is 57.2m on its highest side. It leans 4 degrees away from the vertical which is a height of 57m, where the structure would have originally first stood. What distance has the tower moved from its original vertical standing point???

2) An A frame tent (http://www.go4awalk.com/camping/camping-tents/tents-types-and-styles.php) has a sloping length of 2m. The 2 slopes meet at an angle of 50 degrees. What width of tarp would be needed to fit underneath the tent.

They're both cosine rule questions, i'll do 2) first, hopefully you'll get your head around 1) because I can't picture it, are you sure you worded it right?

2)
a = 2m
b = 2m
c = ?
angle C = 50

=> a^2 + b^2 - 2ab*cos(C) = c^2

plug your values in

4 + 4 - 2x2x2xcos(50) = c^2
so c^2 = 8 - 8cos(50)

you should be able to go on from there for the value of C
