Hello,

I was wondering if I should use the Jacaranda Physics Book or the Hienemann Physics Book for year 12?

Thanks.

Having used both this year I would say deifnitely Heinemann. Jacaranda doesn't explain ideas well and gives you bad questions to answer. Heinemann is the way to go, as it goes into more depth so you can actually understand the concepts and apply the ideas correctly.

I'm saying Heinemann as well. Our class uses Jacaranda and it really sucks. Heinemann is much better when it comes to explanations (and it's much more pretty). To be completely honest though, i've pretty much youtubed my way through physics so far.

I think Nelson is better than Heinemann, but haven't tried Jacaranda .

Definitely go for Nelson. The questions are miles better than any of the other textbooks, usually explains better than any of the others as well (plus the cd extras are actually usable, summary sheets, random quizzes and worksheets, podcasts, animations etc.)

Avoid Jacaranda like the plague.

Go for Heinemann if you can't find the Nelson book.

Whenever I need to use a textbook (rarely, I'm scared of physics textbooks), I go for Heinemann. It has better explanations than Jacaranda. I can't really talk for Nelson, having never seen it.

Usually I live off iTute and AN notes tbh, NOT RECOMMENDED FOR GOOD MARKS THOUGH!

Thanks for the replies. :)

A quick question: Should I just buy all three of the textbooks?

I get paranoid thinking that some textbooks are 'withholding' bits of information. Haha.

Not worth it.
Buy what your school uses at least.
Just get copies of the ebooks for the others (local library, school library, friends from other schools, might be uploaded here on AN).

If you want to spare the money - get your hands on a copy of Nelson (which by now it should be obvious I'm a big fan of this textbook). I try to save money though - I wouldn't reall really want to blow like $200 just on VCE Physics. I wouldn't bother buying all the textbooks.

In the end, you'll be using the textbooks to get a understanding and then refine it through trial exams. Jacaranda is pretty poor with it's information, but Heinemann is decent for the most part, Nelson is better yet. Just use wikipedia/internet/AN/study design for more depth.
